I just installed a Sony XAV AX5500 in my 2018. Everything works basically fine except there is no AM reception. FM comes in fine, so I am not sure what is going on.

Anyone ever have an issue like this? I don't have much experience with audio or wiring, and Crutchfield's tech support told me to tape off the blue antenna wires since it didn't need the power antenna. Is this where I messed up?

Haha yeah. I don’t use it for hardly anything except listening to the occasional football game so it’s not a high priority to fix, I more just want to figure out what I did wrong!

@TendererBeef FM is easier for a H/U to pick up. My guess, the antenna wire is disconnected. Been there, done that. And yes, AM exists still, my hometown hockey play-by-play is AM.

My wife points out to me that highway traffic safety alerts typically use AM radio, so I guess I probably should diagnose the issue before it becomes a problem for future me

The factory antenna connector has a wire for power, so I’m curious why they told you not to use the blue wire.

hook it up, solve problem, drink beer

Were you able to fix the issue? I am looking at getting this for my truck and also like to pick up some sports radio. Also, could you post a photo of it installed? Thanks in advance.
