In Michigan, we have no fault insurance. It's a joke. I have gap insurance, but it looks like I'm going to be out all the money I already paid, and I was paying an extra $200 a month.

Just for context. I got in a gnarly avident on my way to work last year and totaled out my 2nd gen.
Went home, got another car and went into work. I’m telling my team about it and showing them the pictures and they are like ‘WTF are you doing here, you should be at the hospital!’
Rep points to Chuck Norris levels of bad-ass.
Now when one of my guys calls in because their tummy hurts, I’m like ‘Ok no worries...remember that time I almost died in a car accident and came in? Yeah..I hope you feel better”

Glad you’re ok! Been through this back on Christmas Eve in my brand new truck. It sucks, but the truck did it’s job, and kept you safe. The resale value on tacos is unreal, you’ll be able to afford a 2018 to replace it. The additional safety stuff on the 18s lowered my insurance premium.

    TACOMA STRONG!!!

Hey, sorry to hear that. I was recently in an accident with similar damage and airbag deployment. Mine was a write off and I'm pretty sure yours will be too.

Glad to hear you are ok though. Make sure to see a doctor just in case, and rest up :)

I'm meeting with the adjuster as we speak. Just noticed this. Looks like the frame is probably bent.20180308_122055.jpg 20180308_122043.jpg

If that was my truck and they didn't total it, I would drive from the repair shop to the dealership for a new one. It will never be close to the same again.

With or without frame damage, that truck looks done to me. Sometimes the bed/ cab mounts bend and break which would cause the difference in gap. I'm surprised that the bed didn't hit the cab with that hit.

Since the airbags blew, there is a much higher chance of it being totaled.

Regardless, an adjuster isn't going to be able to determine if there is frame damage or not - it's stupid insurance companies even still use them. You need to get it to a body shop and let them do the estimate and put it on the frame machine to see if it's out of spec.

Of the four possible frame conclusions, the adjuster is only likely to be correct in 1; True Positive. The frame is obviously damaged. All other options, true and false negative, and false positive, are suspect for field decision.

When my 2000 Tacoma was wrecked the Frame was all mangled up and the boxed section was crushed, the Insurance company decided to fix, it spent 40 hours alone on the Frame Machine and 48 days in the body shop.

Guess it depends on the insurance company.

Mine didn't have frame damage (measured it on the frame machine right after the wreck), but the entire front end had to be replaced and I begged and pleaded for them to total it - they basically laughed at me and said $12k wasn't really shit and the repairs would have to equal at least 75% of the market value of the vehicle...I'll probably never be able to sell it as the CarFax shows a "major collision" on it, whatever gives me more reason to not think twice about modding or hacking up body panels.

Yeah I was honestly shocked that they didn't total my old truck after that, the driver side tire pushed the floor all the way up to the clutch pedal too.
