Master reset required, dealer only. Sorry dude.

On the plus side, if someone finds the fob later, they wont be able to use it on the truck.

Actually I have remote start via cell. But that doesn’t help except get me IN to the truck.

Right but you can leave fob in it and lock with phone so you don't have to trek through the field with it.

But I thought you couldn’t lock the truck with the fob in it? I know I’ve accidentally left the fob in there and locked the doors but then the truck automatically unlocks the doors and beeps at me.

Good Luck. I had a similar issue 15 + years ago with my Gen1. l lent my truck to my 18 y.o. nephews to run an errand ( get breakfast sammiches) at the NJ shore on vacation. They stopped at the inlet near a bridge to survey the waves as a storm was rolling in and lost my keys in the surf. Spent the next two days searching the rocks in a storm as the salt water spray crashed into my truck wave after wave. Found the fob ( dead) and finally got it out of there. 4 years later the frame failed and was bought back by Toyota

You can turn off the transmitter of the fob by holding down the lock button, then pushing the unlock button 2 times. Your LED on the fob will flash 2-times, twice. Your fob is deactivated. To use it, push any button on the fob. I do this if I park my vehicles on the driveway so thieves cannot use the relay method to steal my vehicles.

TBH in this instance I’m just missing the days when I could have a spare key in a magnet box under the car.

You could disable the smart fob, hide it in the cab of the truck and put the key thats in the fob In a hide-a-key box somewhere on the frame. Even if someone finds the hidden key, they still cant start the truck unless they also find your hidden fob in the cab. Unless they know you did this, no one would suspect.

In your case, you already have the phone app to open the door so you are even in better shape!

Not a good idea.. at all. You're now a busted window away from having your truck drive off without you in it. Tracking it when stolen won't do a whole lot if it's totaled.
A coworker of mine left his keys in his car when it was stolen, insurance and GAP didn't cover it because of that. Insurance companies will think it's an attempt at insurance fraud or not cover it due to pure negligence.

Mines paid for and I have insurance. I also live where it's a very small chance someone breaks the window and steals it. If they do, locking and unlocking it at random times would be fun.

Considering OP lost two of his fobs doing outdoor activities in the past 2 years of ownership, this may be the best alternative. Granted he will be taking a risk of them breaking in and finding the fob, but most thieves dont hunt around for something they dont know is there. They smash and grab and get the hell out of there as fast as they can.

I guess when it's paid for you don't have much to worry about. I live in Albuquerque so I'd never dare to leave ANYTHING in my truck lmao.
