I'm planning a trip up the Lost Coast Pacific Coast Drive sometime between 7/18 - 7/26. Looking to make it a 2-3 day trip. Most likely a 2 day trip because it's only ~100 miles. So if your interested and have specific dates you like, let me know.

It's a moderate trail, nothing to challenging from what I've read. I'm not looking to turn this into a large expedition. But Having at least one other truck on the trail with us would be comforting.

This is what I've mapped out, but it's possible we'll find other routs. Main thing I'm interested in is starting on the south side and ending at the Avenue of the Giants!

Update: Looks we will be doing this 21st-23rd (Tuesday-Thursday). We had some errands come up on the surrounding weekend we need to take care of. At least mid week traffic wont be as bad.

This looks awesome. I'm going camping the 18th weekend so I won't be able to make it. Have fun!

That area is beautiful, haven't been in years. Usal Rd. also runs south from Shady Dell right to Hwy. 1 as an alternative. This old map from the BLM might be useful as well. Enjoy!

Dang. That looks very cool. I've itching to wheel since I haven't in awhile. I'd love to join you but I was thinking of hitting some trails this weekend (July 10-13). I guess my timing is off and probably too soon for prep. But if you happen to be able to make earlier, let me know.

Just was out there a little while ago. Very beautiful area that is for sure. We camped at USAL beach the first night then up north past Shelter Cove the second night. We then took the paved road back to 101 from Shelter Cove the next day because we wanted to get home and had a long drive. The part of the trail we did really was not hard. Did it in 2WD and maybe 4WD high.

So the plan at this point is drive up on the 21st stay at Shelter Cove. Tool around on the 22nd, hiking, exploring and stay one more night at the cove. 23rd wake up and drive out through the Avenue of the Giants.

I do believe you drove past my house a few weeks ago out on the russian river. I was out washing my 06' Silver double cab Taco. I have a yellow baja bug parked right in front of it. I yelled out "Nice Truck". Was that you?
