    Good morning,

Have to take some vacation in a couple of weeks and I'm considering camping around Usal and tackling the lost Coast Trail. I've been watching videos and reading up on the adventure and itt sounds like fun. I'm from socal and am totally unfamiliar with the area and the trail. Wanted to see if anyone had any information or suggestions? I have a decent camping set up, and would be going solo. Guessing three to five days would be enough? As I understand it, it is not managed land and no reservations would be required. Totally stoked and would appreciate any helpful info.

    Thank you.

There are a bunch of threads about Usal Road and the Lost Coast. Things you need to worry about aren't many but any rain makes the road slippery.

Definitely search the forum for some more hints.

The road going in is no problem. I passed up a couple of Priuses and 2wd minivans last time I was there.

If the "Lost Coast Trail" is the road from Hwy 1 to Usal Beach to Whitethorn, it's a pretty easy drive. When I last drove it north of the beach (last November?), I only needed 4WD for one deep washout on an uphill section about an hour north of the beach. I want to say it took about 30 minutes to get from 1 to the beach, and maybe 2.5 hours to get from the beach to Whitethorn. Air down for comfort, go into 1st on the downhills, stay out of the poison oak, and pack out your trash.

If you do tackle the coastline trail, be ready for some knee-work from the sand, cobblestone, gusty winds pushing you and your pack forward or backward, rattlesnakes on the surf, and white squares of TP floating by lol.
And most seriously, be aware of the tide schedule; impassable really is impassable there when you have 2 miles of it and there's 2 spans of it
