I am becoming a maybe at this point. Charles (cykososhull) won't be along since he is planning another vacation now and needs his time off for that.

I am feeling a little bit squeezed right now financially and have had a lot of things happening in the last several weeks, with more yet to come. One of my horses kicked and killed one of my goats this morning, so I am also feeling a bit bummed out.

Maybe an alternate trip should be planned just in case?

Might not be a bad idea. I've been wanting to do this particular trip for years so hopefully it doesn't fall through.

Original plan was to head east up near Sherman pass, so WABDR became the backup plan. I have no good answers since my brain wants to shut down.

Thank you for the offer, but not sure that would work out very well. I live near Spokane. I am also looking at making a trip to the west side to see my older brother, his wife, and my nephews for their first birthday while they are up from California. That would probably be a 2-3 day thing of driving over and coming back home.

In the last 5 weeks, I was trying to go balls to the wall preparing my house for my sister in law's wedding (wife's sister), having a storm that knocked in 1/3 of the roof of my barn destroy several trees and generally make a mess of things (July 23), cleanup from that storm, have the wedding, clean up from the wedding, take care of sister's dogs for a week, send wife off to Colorado (2 vets on the west coast that do this surgery are near Boulder, and in LA, CA) with one of our dogs for 2 weeks for a special surgery for him (purebred pitbull lover boy getting CUE procedure), dealing with insurance, getting hit by another storm (aug 2) that took down another tree and made a mess around the house again, preparing to do Tough Mudder Portland with JoeTacoma02 next weekend, then seeing family on the west side right before the WABDR trip. I kind of want to curl up in a ball in a cold dark corner for awhile.

Also, I have a lot of firewood to split from the last 2 storms.

My suggestion as well for a back-up plan. Or start farther south than planned and still travel north. I've got the days off as well so it's not going to stop me from having fun.

I was reading a bit more on ADVrider forum and situations aren't looking good for anything north of Ellensburg.

Point 5, Ellensburg to Cashmere: may be OK. However, the west side of HWY 97 is under evacuation and typical west winds should force the fire to the east. There is an additional fire in the Naneum Creek area.
Point 6, Cashmere to Chelan: may be closed due to Mills Canyon Fire/25 Mile Fire/Modis Fire
Point 8, Chelan to Conconully: Closed due to Carlton Complex

    (map)

Naches looks like it could be in surprisingly good shape (link), but would require calling. Naches would change the run to 'advanced' level unless the east entrance to Funny Rocks is easy. I haven't been that way.

Moses Lake dunes might be an option? I haven't been there

    For Oregon...

    • McGrew would be really cool, but It's down near Medford... 6 hours of pavement from my house.
    • Noonday trail is in Cottage Grove. I've never been, and it may be difficult.
    • I'm not really interested in TSF unless I took the motorcycle, and it's a bit much to tackle at my skill level.
    • Sand Lake?
    • Florence Dunes are 5 hours
Most everything else is going to be a solid drive and not a several day journey.

I haven't seen if the OBCDR connects to the WABDR? What if we jumped on near point 3 as it intersects 410 and go south instead of north?

We'd have to look at fires down there
