If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
I am down for whatever! I have 5 days off and gas to burn, but as Mike said the "Skill Level" may determine what back-up or alternative options we can do as a Group.

Here's a good site to track the current and contained fires in WA/OR: http://www.nwccweb.us/information/firemap.aspx

    ALTERNATIVE/BACK-UP OPTIONS:
WABDR south to OBCDR (starts south of Walla-Walla)
Naches, Rimrock, Ahtanum, Umtanum trails (all in the same general region)
    Gifford Pinchot exploration
    Ghost Towns

I think there are a few guys with either stock trucks or lightly modified trucks that might not fare well with Naches or Funny rocks. I'd be interested in the OBCDR but I don't know much about it. We still have over a week and conditions could either improve or worsen. Someone should get on the horn with the ranger station and get some definite answers.

Those trails would be fun, could run a trail, camp, hit a different trail the next day. Plus a ghost town would be a ton of fun!

All still as a backup heh

Anyone call a Ranger station yet? Since I barely know the area I figure someone more knowledge should call.

I am pulling out from this trip for sure now. I'll keep watching this thread and updating first post, but just not enjoying your company. Wifey may be coming home early with Dexter dog from his surgery in Colorado as well.

I have not, just been tracking the fires manually.

The map on ADVriders (post #1) has a good overlay of the active fires and other WABDR trail info. (closures, cautions, washouts, etc.)

    http://data.mapchannels.com/mc4/13900/wabdr_1_13900.htm?v=20110705102754

Sorry to hear that Zach :(

I hope we are still able to get out and explore/wheel somewhere....How's Dexter dog doing? Was his surgery a success?

Dexter is hurting. Last night he kept my wife up all night long with whining and vomiting. She had to tell the people there to take the fentanyl patch off (pain med) and give him serenia (anti nausea med). They also put him on IV fluids for dehydration. Wife is a bit grumpy today.

I will make it west sometime for wheeling with you again, but not until next year at least. I will be west next week with my truck, but I will be going north, to Kirkland, Bothell, Edmonds and Everett. I got a couple calls today about going to work though. One from Spokane local of electrical union, and the other from a contractor looking to make use of me for a few weeks before school starts over here.

    Hey all,

Ben and I have been spending the last few hours trying to make alternate plans to deal with the fire issues.
The WABDR is easy to plan, but everything north of Ellensburg is on fire
The ORBDR is the complete opposite. No real fires (just a few around Bend), but the mapping is horrendously difficult, especially since we haven't purchased maps. Even then, I've heard the OOHVA maps for the area have many 'interpretations'. It would require dedicated, extended planning.

As a result, we have decided that the trip will consist of the WABDR starting at Packwood, traveling up to 410, then heading into Naches from the east. We will enter Naches by heading to Moon Rocks by what looks like an easy entrance.

For those who need easy trails, I suggest that you do WABDR and then end in Moon Rocks. Those who are more advanced and have time can continue into Naches. Depending on timing, camp spots are easy to access by all.

Moon rocks is at 46.98281,-120.95823 and Funny Rocks is 46.99080,-120.95390

Here's some trail info I've never seen before. Not the easiest to read, but has a lot
    http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1113176

Having some trouble loading this, but here's the WABDR map.
Going to spend tomorrow planning each day's mileage.

Sounds awesome Mike and Benson. Good plan! Any idea what day we will start the Naches leg?

I need a break from life for a little while, but that isn't in sight yet. Thanks for the offer though Cody.

Mike/Ben, I'll still be watching here so when you get the stuff set, I'll update the first post.

For Matt's sake (13greysled), is there anybody with a decently built up truck he can maybe ride with? He is in Seattle, I think between 65th and 85th. His truck is stock, and I don't foresee him going through Naches with it.

Sorry to hear about Dexter Zach.

I am hoping I am not the only stock truck going on this, otherwise I will need to ride with someone trough the trails. would hate to be the only one taking the "easy route" that Mike mentioned lol

You can ride with me. If you don't want to take your truck all the way there we can meet somewhere or you can leave your truck at my place. I think its on the way for you anyway if your coming from Seattle. I'll confirm I have a spare seat by the end of this weekend.

Matt, from the sounds of it, you are fine until the turn to Naches, so basically the first day. I suggest a ride along for the whole trip for you.
