If you are making a list, put me on the passenger "maybe" list.

A lot of things have to align for me to get the time off to make it. I will try my best and would have a blast!
I have to see if I will be underway during this time (won't know for a while... submarines..)
Anyways, if you guys fill up or need an answer right away, I will just make the next one (plus the truck should be good to go for offroading). Glad to see some meets up in the PNW.

Just to make sure you didn't miss anything, you do realize this is about 80 miles north of Spokane, which is a 5 hour drive east from Seattle. Not exactly PNW. If you already caught that, I don't mean to sound insulting, just want to make sure that anybody going understands this is not a day trip where you can be home for dinner.

Yeah, I checked out the map and understand its a decent drive there. I made it across the U.S. in 2.5 days for work so I can easily do this. Of course if this was just a day run it wouldn't be worth the drive to me. I just consider most of WA to be the PNW and don't see too many meets from TW around.

Watch the Oregon meet thread. They make more trips. You can also set up a trip yourself. It seems that the last minute thrown together trips get more people attending than the trips more planned out for awhile beforehand.

Ben and Mike, do either of you have any thoughts on an order of trails? We will be coming from the south on 395.

i don't remember the maps, but looking at google I'm thinking

    395 to HWY 20
    Up NF-2030
    King Creek trail
Mack Mountain trail east -> west
    US-2030600
    Thompson Ridge
Twin Sisters Quarry (unless we can get to this from the west)

    southern trails

    Owl Mountain

I was looking a bit yesterday, and there is access farther up 395 on the east side per google maps, Matsen Creek Road. There appear to be roads that connect everything together without having to go back to 20 or 395.

I just updated the map again. Looking at the list of trails, it might be best to start with Owl Mountain, since that is about 20 Mi. North of the other trails, and it is a 7-Mile loop that will spit us out on the South-side. That might be a full day in itself.

    -OR-

We can hit all the southern trails and hit Owl Mountain last (if time allows).

Will and I will be out tomorrow and I am going to try to put visual markers up for everything, and Will is going to mark it in his Garmin.

    Hell Yea!!!

...and just a friendly tidbit of advice for everyone...

Don't accidentally mark a TW email notification as 'Spam' in your email account. I must've done that a few weeks back, and stopped receiving ANY notifications from TW (PM's, Sub'd topics, notifications etc.)

I had to go through all my subscriptions and re-select the "Notify" options. Now I have A LOT of catching up to do :(

So it looks like these trails are mostly Forrest service roads that aren't fully maintained. There were several trees that were in the pathway, either on the ground and could be driven over, or hanging across the path and got cut down to be driven over. The actual trail that is the southwest point still north of highway 20 (closest trail almost due north of Highway 20 and Albin Hill road) is gated, with a permanent looking setup, not just a gate to be opened up again.

We covered a lot of ground yesterday, got a lot of pin stripes from trees and bushes growing into the trail. Will and I each lost radio antennas, Will lost his driver side mirror housing, Charles lost his driver side mirror glass, then at the end he put his truck into a tree and looks to have totaled it out.

We started driving about noon from Albin Hill Rd and highway 20 about noon, and decided to go back out about 7:30, from about 15 miles back in the trails. About 10 miles deep, Charles found the tree, but was able to walk away from it.

We did not make it to everything, and there wasn't too much of a technical challenge. There were a few spots I was in 4low, but I mostly ran it in my nearly stock truck in 2high.

Charles got some of his truck, but those were cell phone pics. Will may have gotten cell phone pics as well, but I don't know. I didn't get any.

For most of it, yes, but there were some spots that we needed 4lo.

I'd like to try and make it out to Mt Spokane sometime to see if there is anything up there. If nothing else, we can check that out together sometime. This was almost a 2 hour drive from my house to the turnoff at the west end of the trails.

Thanks for the pre-scout Will and Zach! Not sure who Charles is, but that sucks about his truck - is he a member on here?

Sounds kind of disappointing with the initial trail report. Does it even seem worth it to drive 7 hours up there for this trip? I was hoping for more "technical" trails suited for 4x4 (not grown-over access roads).

What's your guys' opinion? There's still enough time if we want to re-plan for something more "exciting" or scenic if this one is a bust. WABDR maybe?

I don't think this will be worth the 7 hours of driving each way for a full group. There was more technical stuff at Tahuya than we found.

Charles is cykososhull on here. He typically haunts the Idaho campfire BS thread.
