So for the trails we went on I was reminded of some of our Liberty trips. Similar kinds of terrain features. I wouldn't say overgrowth or pinstriping is any worse than other places. It's perfectly OK early in the trail and trails further up the mountain have more chance of overgrowth. It didn't have the amount of broken stumps and rocker panel-catching branches of other places. I didn't once scrape my skids except for one instance of high centering. :anonymous: I had a bit of minor trail damage: antenna mast, rear passenger taillight (due to my penchance for reversing on the trail using just my rear view cam which does not efficiently catch small trees to the side of the camera) and driver side mirror.

Since you begin near the top of Sherman Pass already elevation changes are a bit more gradual and you stay below 5,500 feet. I don't have any pics except a few of Chris. I'll give him a chance to post the carnage pics if he feels inclined.

I know, we suck at taking pics and documenting stuff :(

We did have an awesome time though.

And we all shot each other's guns too, in safe places of course. Will and Charles each had AR15, Will had his Sig 1911, Charles had a S&W .40 (not m&p), I had a .22 rifle, walther .40 and M&P9

One nice thing was that we did not see a single soul the entire day. Had the mountain all to ourselves.

That would be excellent, or maybe Whipsaw in Canada.

Yeah Mike. The trails were well maintained for the most part and easy going for stock vehicles. I hear the area gets plenty of hunting pressure in the Fall so I imagine the trails are kept passable via plenty of usage. Huge advantage that we had the mountain to ourselves but I would say the trips in the Cle Elum district and such had more incredible scenery. The area may be fairly dry in August (as many other parts of the state).

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
I am leaning towards doing WABDR. I know it isn't THE most technical route, but it would be a great excursion, good scenery, well defined routes, camping, and good times. Plus, it would be way easier for us to manage a larger group w/o having to worry about "what the hell are we getting into" :D

Kind of a let-down as I had high hopes for the NE corner to offer some awesome wheeling, but I am REALLY glad you guys did a pre-scout, so Thank You!

I would be pretty pissed if we drove all the way out there and spent 4 days driving some logging roads.

    What do you guys think?

I'm up for WABDR. That would also seem to me that we can potentially bring more trucks along, especially those closer to, or still at stock setups. I would guess that as long as there is 4x4 for some areas, a stock truck could probably do WABDR. Does that sound close to accurate?

For sure, I have not done it, but it seems pretty tame compared to some of the stuff we've done.

    http://www.backcountrydiscoveryroutes.com/WABDR

"The WABDR is also suitable for 4x4 vehicles looking for an easy, scenic drive."

Personally, I would like to start in Packwood and head North. Might be able to get up to the Canadian border in 3-4 days.

To do that, I would probably have to sweet talk somebody into letting me crash at their place the night before starting. That is a long drive over for me to start the trip there.

The WABDR isn't challenging by any means. I'm doing it for the experience of camping a few nights and seeing a variety of beautiful terrain.

There's also the option of joining-in mid route. We will likely have cell service in many spots along the way, so we can communicate and meet up along the way if you want. Just a thought - would save you quite a bit of driving.

My thoughts exactly...I can't make it during the dates you guys have planned, but if you are able to make it a couple weeks earlier, you should join our group (if you want).

I wish. We've already moved the dates around a couple times and finally settled on those dates because of obligations throughout the month.

Damn, sorry bro. On the plus side, if we go before you guys, we can post up good pics, POIs, and good feedback about the route itself. Might be helpful for you to make the most of your trip or be aware of any "gotchas" we encounter.

Yeah that would be awesome. I'll talk to Alex and we'll brainstorm again to see if we could maybe rearrange things yet again

And you guys were originally thinking 8-15-18th correct? I think we were planning on 5 days, so we could do the whole stretch from Oregon to Canada.
