2003 Tacoma - a key and fob went missing. Is it possible to reset the truck so that the lost fob would no longer open the truck if found? I'm concerned that if it were recovered near my primary parking spot that a potential crook could use it to steal my truck. I am leaving the garage door out of the truck as a precaution for now. TIA

Not 100% on this but maybe if you get a new FOB and they program it to your truck maybe the lost one will no longer work to open your truck :notsure:

Shouldn’t be a problem. Make sure you buy a fob with the correct FCC#. Look at your keyless entry module, it should have the corresponding fcc#.

My question was about whether I can make my truck forget the lost one (because I'm concerned it could be found and used to gain access to my truck) Any comment on that?

That'd be nice if it's true. Hoping someone in the 100% "know" could chime in

The video says you can clear all existing remotes.

Good looking out! I didn't watch the video the whole way the first time because I assumed it was just another how to on programming. I still have another fob that I's already programmed, so I will test the procedure he suggested and report back. Thanks @jrallan26 for the post

No problemo. Just one thing. Do not buy a fob from the dealer, they will gouge you. You can find a fob online cheap.

Thought I would follow up - the technique outlined in briefly in the video did NOT solve my issue. What I really needed was to delete all fobs from my trucks memory. A little targeted searching lead me to this technique: follow all steps in video except at the end of the sequence after closing door and inserting the key, turn key from lock to on Five times, then removing the key. The truck will cycle the locks open and closed 5 times, then open your door to complete the task. This sequence will delete all stored fobs. Then, simply add your existing or new fobs back in as described in the video.

I did have an extra fob that did not go missing, and so I was able to confirm: the previously programmed fob still in my possession no longer worked after. Then I added it back in by following steps in video.

I am now confident someone won't find my fob and have easy access to my truck.

You know they can slim jim in 10 seconds or less right? If you're worried about them getting to the garage door opener, it's no safer without a working FOB in their hands.

Edit: And for whatever it's worth, if they were smart enough, they could just intercept your fob signal or garage door signal pretty easily. Even if you have a home security camera, all you're likely to establish is that someone did indeed break into your garage and take stuff.

Just trying to help keep honest people honest. Career criminals definitely don't need a fob to gain access to my vehicle. I still definitely feel better that the lost fob no longer opens my truck. These fobs are powerful! I can unlock my truck from a half block away. At this point, it is unclear where and when the fob was lost, a real possibility is that it was lost near my house (near my primary parking spot). If a random passersby picked up the key and pressed the fob, it is no longer obvious which toyota on the block it will unlock.

Where did you end up getting a replacement fob from? I haven't had one in 8 years but I'm starting to miss the unmistakable Toyota beep

My truck came with one, and I ended up buying a second one from the dealer. I tried 3 different ones from Amazon, one worked, but was much more sensitive to range (more than 10 feet from the truck and it wouldn't open). Returned all of them and bought one from the dealer. I think I payed $50 for it. I will buy another one from the dealer, since the person who lost the key and fob said they would pay.

    Hope that helps
