Went snowboarding today (which was amazing!), forgot my keys were in my jacket pocket which was open. Fack...

I did a quick search but didn't really see much.

What's the best replacement options? Do you buy aftermarket and get it cut? Do they have a chip in them that has to get programed?

    2013 Sport V6.

    Much appreciate the help.

    Cheers,

    Jay

Yes they have a transponder in them for the Immobilizer so you need a key with the correct transponder chip and it does have to be programmed to the truck after being cut.

Where does one go to buy a new key? Is the dealership the best place? Or is there a website that's better?

My first call would be a locksmith. At least the ones I’ve dealt with were knowledgeable in their craft. Just make sure to give them the full story, transponder key is lost, no spare, doors are locked, etc.

I had a similar situation as a teen, after surfing the car key I had in the leash key pocket thing opened in the water. Pre cellphone era so yellow pages & pay phone call to the locksmith. He showed up with a box of about 100 Datsun keys. Opened the lid, tried one, put it in the lid, repeat until one opened the door. Cut me a couple keys from that one, done.

Pretty sure a locksmith would be able to replicate a key for the truck. Mobile cutting and programing.

Do you have Roadside Assistance in your insurance package
They should be able to get a mobile locksmith that can cut and program the new key

Thanks guys! Called a local locksmith and they said it's $100 to cut and re-program a new key :) Easy peasy...

    My story...
Got up to go fishing in a high-mountain lake in kayak. Got warm and pulled off hoodie... Keys went down, down deep, like 75'+.
After 1 hour of magnet fishing I knew it was time to call the man.

    - Had a non-start spare wired under frame so I could open door
    - Nicest locksmith ever showed up from about 75 miles away
    - Did his thing and cut me two new chipped keys, took my $300 VISA payment, and said have a great rest of your day
    - Back in town I had a local locksmith make me a new fob. $154.
    - My AAA reimbursed me $100

    Nice fishing trip though.

I got this done at a locksmith. He provided the chipped blank and the programming console. I also bought a new FOB but was able to program myself. Maybe you only lost the key though.

Cost at the locksmith was half what the dealer wanted.
