My 2011 went in for the 10,000 mile service today. I drove it about 45 miles then I turned in a parking lot and heard this horrible pop in the rear of the truck. Thought maybe something was rolling around in the bed. Got out to see and there was nothing in my bed. Did it again 20 minutes later and this time it was definately somewhere in the back axle... It sounded like a hub breaking only on the back. They rotated the tires but the lugs are tight. Any ideas on what to look at before I take it to the dealer and cannot recreate the problem?

Yeah I'll be knocking on the door at 7am. Just curious of what it could be. Are ring and pinions bad about going out? Or axles breaking? Its all stock other than adj. billies

Usually when your rear goes (gears) out it a big loud BANG! And then you can go any where because the rear end it locked up.

    X2 for what Ryan said.

Well sat at the dealer for 2 hrs so they could tell me my reciever hitch moved and made the noise. I have had that in there since the day I bought my truck and it has never made that noise nor is it capable of being that loud. So I told him well I will take the hitch out and when my wheel or rear end come off the truck he was going to be dealing with a very pissed off customer. He made a note in the system so if something does happen it is documented.

I don't know about you but my hitch would clunk sometimes over a bump but never a grinding sound.

Stab in the dark , but did they rotate in your spare? If so could the spare carrier be loose and clunking back and forth?

The spare is a steel wheel. Shouldn't be rotated with the alloys.

What all did they touch for the 10,000 mile service? Are you sure it's not in 4hi?

True , on my old truck I had this issue of a clunking noise from the rear end and it wound up being a loose spare in the carrier .

I opened my yap before thinking it through , but you're right , different wheels.

Well I have never heard it before and didnt turn hard or anything to make it slam as loud as it was...

That was the first thing I checked, and its tight

As far as I know all the normal front diff, rear diff, tranny plugs. Oil plug and filter and rotated the tires. Its not in 4wd. I figured a tire was probably loose but they said they were good. Haven't heard it today though. It sounded like a hub binding up and then snapping in half. Scared the shit out of me

Since you have the Sport I wonder if maybe they forgot to add the friction additive to the rear diff?
