So i've had this problem for awhile... posted on TS and no answer... went to the dealer... ended up paying $90 for them to look at it even though i was in warranty. he said "it could be the egv valve or the fuel pump... they wanted me to pay for the cost of the parts and repair. long story short i left...

the tapping sound is similar to when you tap your finger nail on a desk and it's about 2-3 taps per second... it used to happen when it was a bit colder out (not freezing.. i live in socal 10 minutes from the beach). Now it seems to happen when ever it wants.

After an oil change it came back it seems. when i throw it in neutral the i think the sound goes away... but when in park or drive the sound is there.

anyone else experience this? And NO it is not the exhaust tick.

I am having the same issue. Took it to the dealer and they changed out the manifold and converter (warrentee), noise still there. Next they said it was the berrings on the belt tensioner pulley, changed that out ($300), sound still there, no difference. They then told me they could not identify the noise and for me to drive it until it gets worse. Today it seems the noise in louder in the back seat (directly under passenger side). It think it could be the fuel pump. Any advice????
