    also factory or a/m waterpump?
i have seen the aftermarket water pumps gaskets hit the impeller and make one hell of a noise. i have seen it on one factory pump also

timing seems ok when it runs.. motor sounds smooth except for loud whining. Water pump is ok not the culprit, not sure about the cam gear what you mean on that..

I used Silocone DioElectrode grease on all the electrical fittings when I re-connected all the electrical connections.. never done that before now. wanted to make sure moisture was kept out.

Changed out idler pulleys and pulled Cam Shaft position sensor and cleaned it.. Still bad whining

Whining sounds like a gear drive in a hot rod motor...

I lined all the marks up on chain to pulley marks.. don't know if it's too tight. when i pull the oil fill cap off in the valve cover, I don't here anything whining in there. But it's really loud. I just pulled Crank Shaft pulley and re-greased it and front main seal. Took the alternator in to be tested; it's ok. oiled the serpentine tensioner pulley bearings.

The Timing cover came with Oil Pump gears already installed. I assumed they got oil in them when I filled motor with oil..

Should I have filled oil pump area in Timing cover with oil before I started maybe? Im pullling the plug right now.. expected oil to flow out when I do..

man.. how would I know if the chain is too tight? Its the same size as old one and I matched up marks.. This whole job made me so nervous about messing one thing up.
Uncharted territory for me. Figure there are about 7 tensioners with cheesey plastic pieces that push on the chain.

Thats another thing.. I have no idea where my oil control valve is.. I am aware of the camshaft position sensor towards the top of the motor than the crankshaft position that goes in the drivers side timing cover but not sure about the oil control valve.

Looked it up in service manual and it looks like the camshaft position sensor

Never took the cams out.. I just pulled the allan bolt out that covers the chute into the oil pump.. was thinking maybe the oil pump needed to be primed. Oil poored out, so that doesnt seem to be the problem.

Let the truck warm up last night prob for about 5 or 6 minutes.. was thinking the same thing that oil would get everywhere and sound would stop..

I'm going to go to the dealer tomorrow and pick their brains..

Allready got it all fastened up, and then realized that I had left out a tensioner from the 2nd chain assembly. spent a whole day pulling it off and redoing the whole inside again..

Anyways feel like I am out of ideas at this point.

Hope its not coming from the inside, I suspect my new oil pump for some reason..

    Thanks again

I think he means 'try using a screwdriver as a poor man's stethoscope' to pinpoint the noise.

Thanks- I have been using my biggest phillips screw driver all over that motor. This weekend I will take it a part again and this time I am looking at the lower secondary chain gears that I think are rubbing together.. Thanks for advice guys.. Third time is a charm hopefully on this one.. As promised in my other thread, I am going to do a very thorough write up when this is all over. Followed by selling my truck immediately and starting a a Willy's Wagon build to be used as my daily driver..
