Does anyone know of any good shops in or around the Baton Rouge area where I can get my gears swapped?
I’ve called 4 or 5 places and none of them do it.

Yeah I called 4WP and they referred me to another shop, who referred me to another shop, who also doesn’t do it.
Called Searchers and the guy said he’d have someone else call me back in a few minutes. They never called back. I tried a couple more times and didn’t get an answer.

I’m starting to get a few suggestions on Facebook, so I should have a few numbers to call tomorrow.

Wow, that's interesting. A 4X4 shop that's afraid of gear swaps?

    Why don't you diy?

DIY is still an option. I was thinking about ordering fromt and rear assemblies from ECGS, swapping them, then sending the cores back.

I just wanted to get some quotes locally to see if it’s worth just having someone do it.

Suprised 4wp wouldn’t do it. But Phil at searchers should. You know that’s a smaller shop and always busy, only a few employees there and Phil has a bad memory. I’d try them again tomorrow. Just not around lunch time because they go eat. I don’t know about a DIY gear job, that’s a pretty big ventur. A lot riding on I’d you shimmed it correctly to, possibly driveline vibrations and failure. That’s just my two cents, I’ll do all the mods I can alone, just some things is best leave it to experts that give warranties.

Could try southern style off-road. They specialize in bumpers, but they just got their install shop opened. So possibly they might do things like gears. Possibly

They replied to me on Facebook and said they could install if I bought the pre assembled diffs.

I have not used them and am unfamiliar with their capabilities with Tacos, but they have been there FOREVER... MUDHOLE in Kenner (Airline, next to the airport, near Williams).

Yeah I went to Searchers and talked to Phil. Real nice and knowledgeable guy. He said they could do it and he quoted me a price.
Also talked to someone in Lafayette. I was looking to get 5.29s. They use either Yukon or G2 gears and said that those two companies don’t make 5.29s. They said I could buy the ring and pinion sets myself from Nitro and they quoted me a price to install.

There’s a special going on right now, if you buy an ARB air locker, you get a free compressor. I’m thinking I should just get the pre assembled diffs from ECGS with an ARB front locker and do the core exchange route.
If I swap it myself, it would cost about the same as paying someone to do my gears, but I’d have a front locker.

I’m not in any rush to get this done, but I’d like to have it done before I head out west this summer. I already have a compressor, so if I miss out on the free ARB compressor, it’s no big deal.

That sounds like a better option if you don't DIY.

I got a 2019 Cement TRD Sport DCSB about a month ago & it's time for some mods. I have already swapped out factory tires & rims for 4Runner TRD Pro wheels w/ Nitto Terra Grapplers. Anyone bought/installed a lower light bar below their grill? What type of tonneau covers are people putting on now-a-days?
