Anyone know a place that will balance a driveshaft besides Republic Diesel? Talked to the boys at MOAB and they don't have a very high opinion of them.

Call Powertrain Services. They have a shop in Louisville according to the site. The one here in Lexington does alot of drive shaft work for offroad guys, I assume they would as well.

(thanks sjwhitaker, but your suggestion was a bit too late)

Got the driveshaft back from Republic Diesel and everything runs smooth up to 90mph at least. The shop said mine came back looking brand new, however, the older Tacoma shaft they sent in at the same time came back looking like ass with the same problem.

Take that as you will I guess but I assume I just got lucky.

They decided to up the price after they already had it since it was a two piece and some of the yokes were fucked up (catastrophic failure on the highway a couple months ago).

So all told it cost me about $800 for the repair/re-balance by RD, and removal/install by the shop.

Ouch.... I don't want to be "that guy" but you could of had a custom shaft made by Tom Woods that would have cured all your current and future issues for about half that.

We COULD use it to work on other meetings in the same general area, too, like at Somernites in Somerset in April...

It was an option. $500 for the shaft, $150 for the removal/install, and no one would guarantee it wouldn't vibrate past 60mph. So if it came in and didn't solve my problem I would be out the install and removal fee as well as a truck until another one comes in.

Going with RD meant I had someone to hold accountable if it vibrated past 80mph (all they would guarantee to) and it was locally done with stock hardware in a (somewhat) reasonable amount of time.

I went year before last and drooled over the trucks. There were several X Runners there.
