Sucks to see a 2022 have the same issue. Looks like 3rd gen is going to go down in history for being the Toyota with the notorious timing cover leak.

Seriously don't sweat it. take care of it reasonably and in 5/8 years someone will pay you top dollar for your tacoma. Based on their knowledge of how great Toyotas are. Its really a win-win if you don't fuck it up along the way.

If I had to honestly rate the initial quality of my Taco, I'd have it pretty low.

But in the last 50k miles or so, my truck has needed very little. I'm at 75k miles now and it just chugs along.

    Check build thread!
My mothers lifters collapsed on hers at 15k miles, destroying the motor and leaving her stranded in -40c (2019 Jeep Wrangler JL 2 Door, 6 Speed Manual, base as fuck). Thankfully, FCA did do a really good job in taking care of her. Put a new short block in for free, then when she was looking at a new Jeep (she’s a jeep person, werido) ended up giving her a deal on a trade in on a loaded 2 door rubicon, 6 speed manual for about 5k under MSRP.

I'm putting a little over 50K per year (a lot in 4WD)...mines still chugging at well over 200K.

Used to be bad on decel form 60-45. Still does a bit, but nothing like before it got TSB'd around 16k miles or so. It is slightly noticeable with the stock OR tires. I have run wildpeaks AT3W's, cooper AT3's, and Cooper ST Maxx's and never heard a peep.

That's a lot of miles. Any particular issues?

I have probably 40k+ miles towing, and 70k at or over the rated Payload since I use my taco as a work truck. My truck is always loaded to the point where I have a hard time doing grocery store or costco runs with it.

I don't do much in 4wd since I got my SxS about 4 years ago. Other than snow and occasional off road excursions, I just don't use it much anymore.

They also like to crack cylinder heads. Completely junk engines.

My '21 Tacoma is rolling along at 87k with no issues. Any money I have had to put into repairs has been trail damage.

Blue Crush Metalic Tacomas seem to have the most issue. What's up with that?

They have their paint issues on top of what ever else might go wrong, and Toyota and everyone else build more white trucks than other colors. BCM, I think is only in its 2nd year of production and a lot of the engine threads seem to be BCM. It's just a coincidence, but strange nonetheless.

No issues...its my daily - my wife is a stay at home housewife. I'm in my truck 90% of the time alone - so it is a great size for rural trails as well as when I'm in larger cities. I do drive a lot as our farm is in the middle of nowhere and I'm always going somewhere. We bought my wife a new car (22 4Runner Pro - Lime color) Feb of 22; she drives very little - I'm not sure she has put 10K miles in a little over a year.

As for the 4X4, we own a horse farm - boarded on 2 sides by a small river - so my 4x4 is on/around our property and friends property. I'm old and looking to retire in about 4 years (maybe sooner if the mood hits hahaha).
