After test driving several 3rd gens I feel like my grandpa. Lol they just don’t make them like they used to! The 4.0 auto eats mountains up for breakfast. The only truck I’ve seen mash past it up i70 was a Ford raptor. I give it props in parts were most cars have a hard time going 70 it passed me going 100 lol. But for the price and the size of the truck I like the taco more! Up the same part of i70 the 3rd gen reminded me of my 89 Pontiac sunbird le. It stayed perfectly inbetween gears were it jerked me back and for literally shifting 100 times in 10 min. Honestly my 4 cylinder sunbird with 200 thousand miles ran better. I hate the 3rd gens dam they messed up a good thing. Hope the 4th gen they make it capable again. Tired of bells and whistles when I’m in my truck I want power. Not a cool looking dashboard! Bring back the 4.0 and I’ll buy a new truck same day. I think we need to give the Prius it’s engine back:)

Just straight up love my 2nd gen.

I bought it in Jan 2016 just as the 3rd gens started filling the lots, it was the last new 2nd gen the stealership had. It just happned to be exactly what I wanted :cookiemonster:

Mountains for breakfast ? Hilarious. It bogs down in the upper end.
That's completely false. My 2nd could not keep up the speed limit on a grade where my 3rd could with same load, because of 18% more hp in 3rd gen.
Check out the gauntlet tow test and you will see the faster time of the 3rd gen by a whopping 45 seconds.
Only truck was a Ford raptor ? That's even more hilarious.
The 3rd will blow by any 2nd in passing time also.
2nd does not have that extra 18% hp, period.

    https://www.zeroto60times.com/vehicle-make/toyota-0-60-mph-times/
Check out 3rd times compared to the 2nd and 4runner and get back with us.
3rd is almost a second faster than 4runner.

No disrespect to any of the 3rd Gen owners reading but I totally agree, I Love my 2nd gen. Not a fan of how they made the 3rd gens look either. JMO

I bought a mint condition 4x4 trd off road short cab 2nd gen with 16k miles. I could of bought a 3rd gen but I am really disappointed of Toyota and I feel the 2nd gen is superior to the 3rd gen and will last longer and be more valuable as time goes on just like how the 1st gens are.

And no way I am paying $40k+ for a small pickup truck.

Notice the white 2nd gen access cab to the right. Didn't notice that until I bought my 2nd gen.

If Toyota actually made the truck stronger and increased payload capacity, upgrading axles and diffs I ain’t paying $40k+ for a new Tacoma that is basically the same as a 2nd gen but worse with all the unnecessary gizmos inside it and 3.5 engine. Mechanical improvements win me over and not unnecessary fluff like radar cruise, LED lights, electronic seats, etc.

Im not talking crap about 3rd gens! They are great for getting grocery’s or going in for ginacolgist appointment! But that prious engine has had hard time towing my balls lol. Honestly with no weight going uphill it shifted 100 times in the time my truck didn’t need to shift once. That’s a problem. The autos ride in the highest rpms like it’s normal. My truck going uphill with a headwind at 90 mph stays in one gear at 2000 rpms. Can you say the same? I think the Manuels are better but that engine didn’t have shit on the 4.0. On paper it looks good but so do a lot of the girls I meet on tinder lol. All I can say is test drive.

I had a asshat pull out in front of me yesterday and I only had time to swap lanes to keep from hitting his dumbass. All I could think about on the rest of the way home is how would I ever be able to replace my truck if it had turned out differently. The only answer I could come up with is that I would have to buy a 4Runner.

I use to buy me a new truck and my wife a new car every 4 to 5 years(I just like new vehicles) but that changed when I bought my Tacoma new in 2009. I bought it mostly for my hunting , fishing and camping journeys and to tow my boat. It does everything I want and then some. It’s got me into and out of some quite remote and primitive areas. In 10 years other than routine maintenance the only thing that went wrong was a high pressure a/c hose. Replaced it and all has been great. It’s fast and nimble and gets me where I want to go. I’ve had full-size Dodges and Fords and a Tundra but I like this truck the best. We still buy my wife new cars every couple of years. It’s 10 years old and I’m keeping it.

Nice call, handed down my 2nd gen to my son and purchased a 4runner pro. Loving it.
