Just a quick rant I guess so here it is- Why is it that all I read lately on the 3rd gen forums is almost everyone crying about their trucks? Guess what guys they arent perfect, they never were and never will be. I had a 2nd gen and I think the 3rd gen is a superior truck. I have had Nissans, Rams, Fords, and Toyota. I am staying Toyota trucks. Feels like no one likes their trucks- guess what trade them in, they have the best resale value anyways of all pick-ups. All everyone seems to do is complain over dumb issues. So the transmission hunts gears a little, so what. So the the vibes are back from 2nd gens, so what fix it. So the front diff needle bearing growls again like the 2nd gen- fixable again. I guess I am tired of reading the complaints- I thought this was an enthusiast forum, wtf guess not. I'll just stay off the 3rd gen forum and stay on the regional forums. Anyhow thanks for hearing me COMPLAIN.

Some guy's signature said it the best.

Going to Tacomaworld.com and seeing all the problems is like going to the doctors office and being surprised at the number of sick people there.

Why not voice oppinion on thr truck? Negative or positive, who are we to say people shouldnt say anything.

You may get sick of people complaining, then dont read the post. Pretty simple.

But i wouldnt expect or support a collaborative censorship just because we dont want to read the complaint.

Some poeple go to forums to vent about frustrstions, others want to find if the same issue is wide spread.

Maybe the higher density of complainta may catch the ear of the correct poeple. We can only hope.

Whats the wrong in people voicing there opinion? Why complain about people complaining? Make fun of it sure, but whats the harm in reality?

There may be complaining, but depending on your view it can help show what is an average problem from a unique one. Also if problems still arise a year or two later, then it helps confirm to me that it hasn't been addressed YET? I am with you OP, if your truck keeps having issues after a few months of repairing it then just swap out. Some are lemons and some arnt. For those with the unfortunate lemons, bring it back and get another that has a proven record? I havnt had the opportunity to buy a new Toyota, but that is one perk I like about a lightly used one as it has been tested to some degree due to a previous owner and if it shows no concerning issues then its a winner in my book.

At the end of the day though, I prefer more data and complaints instead of the absence of them as these concerns might indeed help me one day.

It's because the definition of an enthusiast has changed.

Once that meant someone who was knowledgeable, capable and proficient in a wide range of necessary skills to get the most performance/enjoyment/efficiency from the designated vehicle or activity. Trucks, cars, motorcycles aren't perfect and never have been. Picking one that most closely fits with your intended use and then tuning and modifying it to work even better is part of the experience. Less people have the skills necessary to do much more than bolt on a set of wheels or slap on some decals.

Now an enthusiast means someone who is into trucks or cars or bikes and has enough money to pay someone to modify it for him. Doing any sort of work on their beloved vehicles is viewed as a form of punishment, not a enjoyable or expected part of ownership.

It's the same or at least similar end result, but the path is very different. The person who doesn't have the skills or knowledge to work on the vehicle tends to be more frustrated and vocal about any perceived shortcomings, since they only have two options, bitch about it or pay someone to fix it.

Paying for services adds some discomfort, paying for repairs/upgrades that the owner feels should have been "right" from the factory then becomes a burden. It used to be looked at as part of the experience, you grumbled a little bit and figured out a solution or work around or bought an aftermarket upgrade. You accepted less than perfection as long as the big stuff was OK.

No one should really be surprised that a sense of entitlement exists everywhere today, even in the way we approach our hobbies or activities.
i.e.: "I paid $40,000 for this truck and god damn it it isn't absolutely perfect! Somebody owes me an explanation, a refund and some milk and cookies waaaaaaaaaaaahhhh"

The people that bitch and whine about a whistling noise because of a hole in a suspension arm, would commit suicide over trying to keep a late 50's British motorcycle in good working order.

I don't mind the complaints. It's the primary reason the internet exists, to allow the people of the world a common location to bitch about everything and so that the leaders of Americas military will have access to porn in case of a nuclear attack.
But I will complain about the number of people who feel the need to create a new thread about the issue they are having that is exactly the same as the issue of the last four guys were having. I blame Facebook and the 'everyone is special' mentality. Good for you, I'm so fukn happy that you got a gold star because you didn't shit your pants in third grade. Guess what, in the real world that gold star is meaningless. You are owed NOTHING by this planet, this forum, Toyota or you parents. Pick yourself up by your goddamn boot straps, get a job, and fend for yourself. You want respect? Earn it. You want help? Put in some goddamn effort yourself. Have a question? Try finding the answer yourself and then if you need to ask use proper English so we know what in the hell you are even asking.

Oh, and have a happy Wednesday everyone!

Actually this is a good point. I am not an actual enthusiast for say yet for my Tacoma, but I do enjoy learning more about it and tackling stuff on it to become more familiar. I don't think that the term enthusiast has changed for say, but that the forum welcomes people of all types assuming they have a taco or the interest in purchasing one. Maybe the criteria of this site has more Tacoma hobbyists than enthusiasts? Anyway, it is the internet on a forum where ALL things exist with the exception of politics. At the source of great info comes great bitching.
