When I got my Tacoma for graduation, there were holes in the front of the air fiter housing. Later on, the neck that extends from the housing for the tube to go to the throttle body snapped off. I rode around with it like that for a while. Didn't notice the gas mileage until gas started going up. So, I epoxied it and a few months later the epoxy cracked and ruined my gas mileage even more. So I saved up and was able to purchase a new box just recently for $55 on Ebay. Installed it about 2 weeks ago and man is it doing wonders! I barely could get 180 miles per tank, and that is with driving like an old man. So last week, I put 3/4 of a tank in my truck and it just tipped over onto E with 200.9 miles on the trip odometer, and that is with high speed interstate driving as well as flooring it a couple of times to see how the new box made a difference performance wise. I'm so glad I got it. Next up is the MAF sensor because that is bad as well. Anyways, just wanted to share my happiness lol. I can start saving money on gas now :D

Replace the MAF sensor, clean the throttle body and IAC valve and you should notice a significant difference.

200 miles per tank is very low IMO

Cleaned the throttle body a month ago, not the IAC valve tho. And the sensor is next on my list once I get paid again. Also, that was 200 miles on 3/4 of a tank. So a full tank would have gotten me around 220-230. But yea I agree pretty bad. But coming from getting 150-180 miles per tank, its wonderful to me

I easily get over 200 miles per tank with heavy ass armor and a supercharger.

Do plugs and wires. It makes the most difference on these engines.

Replaced wires on it when I got it due to them being burned on the engine block. (Around May of 2013) Just put new plugs in February of this year. So I should be good there.

I know it's been debated to hell, so take this number with a grain of salt knowing I'm running 31" tires (tends to over inflate mpg/mileage/etc)

But I get anywhere between 300-330 miles to a tank.

Yeah I just got 320 since last fill-up. I'm 2.7 man. trans 4x4. Think your 2wd should be even better. Those were normal driving miles. If I get heavy footed it can go down to about 280 per tank.

Not sure what emissions laws are like in New Orleans, but if you really want to boost your mileage you could also remove your front catalytic converter, replace your rear cat, get an oxygen simulator (URD makes a good one), high flow muffler and drive around without your passenger seat or spare tire... Haha, just a thought anyway:)

depends on how "high speed" interstate driving. If you're doing 70-75 ish should be a little better. If you do a lot of city driving I can understand.

Also how do you know the MAF is bad? Have you tried dousing it with MAF cleaner yet? It's only about $7 a can and could save you the trouble if it's dirty (mine was brown last year)

I wish I could break the 300 mark on my 3.4

I'm not lifted (have not installed the parts collecting dust haha), or have extra weight (upgraded armor). I do have an S/C, but I'm not on it much.

But getting less than 200 a tank is horrible. I get that much on E85. On 91 pump gas I can get 260+. Strangely I get a little better on 89 octane, maybe because I granny drive it even more, or the engine design is optimized for that octane and nets more mechanical conversion of the BTUs than higher octane fuel. I think I broke into the 300s once or twice when a vast majority of the driving was freeway driving.

Will probably work on a module to scew the o2 signal and lean it out some, would like to hit 300s more consistently, just worried lean a/fs might damage the cat.

I'm beating a dead horse here you don't need to run higher than 87 octane (US) as it has no benefits.

You will most likely never get over 300 unless you do at least some highway driving, or long rural stretches (50 mph in OD? hell ya).

Leaning out would be bad too as it would cause more harm than good. Just keep all fluids topped off, tires aired up, routine maintenance in check, and keep driving like a granny. The first movement from a stop is the worst for mpg killer.

Back in March I had a 318 mile stretch and still had about 1.5+ gal left in the tank when I filled up. I was doing no more than 60 mph, mostly flat and a little downhill. It clocked at 18.8 mpg, just about what EPA sticker said.

N/A I would agreed, I'm boosted-- higher octane prevents ping ping boom.

Maybe I should have defined an air fuel target rather than sound as if I'm just shooting into lean land and hoping for benefits. Lots and lots of documentation out there highlighting running just slightly leaner to a whole point leaner than stoich has benefits. I have EMS and a wideband, the final part would be the need to fool the downstream narrowband the 01 ECU uses to calibrate the upstream OE wideband. Then with proper tuning, it would be about half a point to a point leaner in low load and only there.

    then again, 3.4L auto 4x4 w/ 31x10.5 r15.

I tend to stay off the interstate because for some reason, I tend to want to drive much faster than the speed limit lol. But when I do, I try to stay between 65-70 however, my lower ball joints are wearing out so the passenger wheel feels like its bouncing. I know the MAF is bad because its aftermarket. The money hungry mechanic had me get a new one when I first got the truck. Was hesitating to get going and I wanted to drive it to school the next day. Replaced the spark plug wires and the MAF sensor due to oil on it from K&N air filter. I didn't know at the time that you could just clean it, so he advised me to buy another one. (funny part is, he used to be a mechanic for Toyota so he should know better). Bought it from AutoZone for $90. He told me that the CEL would be on for a little bit but would go off. Never did.

I think not having the CC is illegal here lol. However, I see a LOT of people not running them.

I believe I've used injector cleaner before. Idk how many times I should use it. Or would I have to take apart the engine and do a proper cleaning?
