The hose flushing connection was a requirement at the time for use at public RV dump stations.

That's smart. I never had to use one (I never did big walls), but some people I climbed with used them. They probably just dumped it out and buried it, or maybe used plastic bags to line the tube with.

Did you throw some RV black tank chemicals in there?

I think I mentioned in the OP, we never actually used it. I made it up many moons ago just to be "in possession" of an "approved" waste containment system for travel in back country areas that had such requirements. It's a copy, not something I came up with. The river folks like them because they are compact and easily stowed in a Kayak or the like. I believe the RV bayonet fittings allow it to be secured to an "official" dump station receiver and flushed with minimum impact or chance of "fouling" the area.
When traveling under a back country permit, many times there is a required "orientation". It's usually a five or ten minute talk to assure you are aware of local cautions and regulations. It's not common but an official can request to verify that you possess such a system.

It would be a sad day to travel 50 miles past this sign.

Then travel the 46 miles of washboard past this sign to the Ranger station for your permit, only to be denied.

We have always subscribed to the "cat hole" procedure but in our twilight years opt for the comfort of the folding throne. Possessing this and WAGS satisfies any requirements. In real life the throne typically sits over a cat hole. One hole to another, so to speak.

The RV dump stations I've ever used don't really have much of a "connection". Just a hole in the ground with a cap. So the connection like you had on the tube just connects to a hose, and the other one of the hose has a 90 degree fitting and rests in the hole (isn't "sealed" by any stretch of the imagination).

When I (attempted) Mt whitney a couple years ago, our permits included wag bags, which is just a bag with basically kitty litter you poop in and put in another bag. I saw so many of those littered on the trail. Awesome. They take the time to poop in the bag, then just toss the bag.

    One more.
Those military surplus tool bags are great for containment of various gear such as "Compressor, Air" "Gear, Recovery" "Battery, Emergency" or "Gun, Hand" . The true surplus or mill spec bags are high quality and rugged with a stiff bottom. The India/China Knock offs not so much.
They seem to fit well in odd spots, being "soft sided" they can be coerced into places a rigid container can't.

Some recovery gear. I made a spool for the old wire rope (90' x 5/16") for use as an extension when synthetic went on the winch.
Made from a short bit of 3" PVC and two closet or toilet flanges cut down to the appropriate diameter.
Yes, it takes persistence to master the winding technique.

Reviving an old thread, but didn’t see cotton balls soaked in petroleum jelly for fire starter.

It’s waterproof, lights with just about any spark and a single cotton ball burns for about 5 minutes. I take a tub of Vaseline and heat it up in a pot of water until it all melts. Take your cotton balls and stuff them in the container of your choice. I use another empty Vaseline tub and then pour the liquid jelly back over the cotton balls. When you go to light one, pick out a cotton ball and pull it apart into two pieces. Stick those two pieces back together with the fine fibers sticking up and light the fine exposed fibers. I use a fire steel, but you could even use the flint in an empty lighter to get it going.

My parents now use this technique for lighting their wood stove. They don’t even need kindling.
