If they could crack the ECU code it would be done, but Toyota put pretty tight security on the ECU compared to most bikes whose codes seem easy to crack and re-flash.

Really! Maybe there's still someone out there that can crack it but maybe it's not worth doing it! Cause let say we can do ECU reflash and gain more horses, I think there is a way we can work around the warranty issue. One is putting it back to the stock spec ECU when you bring in for whatever issue that warranty is involved..

Or just buy a Tundra...these are trucks..... not race cars.

    - Some car makers have a way to tell how many times the ECU has been flashed. They can compare to the records they have.
    - Your seem to be ok with messing with the ECU, have something break, reset the ECU, and act like you didn't change anything. Not very ethical.
If you want to play with the ECU, go ahead. Just be willing to admit what you did.
What your suggesting is fraud. Last time I looked it is illegal.

I dunno man, I was just tryin' to suggest something to the OP's inquiry, and thought out that doing some tweak on the ECU to remove restrictions will somehow gain more power and torque. Now, are we going about to talk ethical, legal or illegal here.. How I wish companies, dealers, salesman and dealer mechanics are doing the same, that is being as honest as they can be to their customers..

If you have a manual it's pretty easy. You just have to ignore that there's a 6th gear. Unless I'm doing 70 mph+, I don't even think about using 6th, and no I don't care about my MPG.

    Funny.
    Never have been a democrat.
What I find fascinating is someone wanting to mess with the ECU, yet remove that change back to factory setting if there is a warranty issue with the vehicle that is ECU related, and most likely not telling the repair shop they reprogrammed the ECU.

imo, if you want to play, you pay. Modifying a vehicle beyond factory specs is the owners responsibility.

It sure gets tiresome with all this I have low end torque. My truck pulls what it needs to. The majority would probably never even think about the torque if they haven't been reading about it on these type posts.

Well yes, but almost all the posts are from current or previous 2nd Gen Tacoma owners that are accustomed to the enormous power output of the 4.0 V6, which is something like 1750 HP / 3200 lb-ft. I heard that if you chain 2 of them back to back and floor em, it will rip the earth apart.

Take off traction control and turn on ECT. Watch your MPG tank and your wheels smoke. If you're still complaining about power, you're on the wrong type of vehicle. Get yourself a Miata/Golf/Shitstang/Shartger/Cacamero.

Low End Torque, Shift Mapping and Throttle response (dead pedal) is the issue. ECT helps get the truck hold gears longer and improves responsiveness a bit, especially on kickdown (when demanding power)
