Is it really that inconvenient to spend 6 minutes filling up before you think you’re going to run out of gas?

Not shitting on anyone, genuinely curious how this mindset works. If you drive a lot, you’ll fill up a lot. Fill ups are quick. You can double your fuel capacity and fill up less often, but you’re still spending time at the pump - now, twice as long but half as often.

I don’t get the shell game. It’s the same, at the end of the year.

Somethings not right with that logic. If I changed when the needle hits 3/4 I’d be changing every 2nd or 3rd day. If I chose 7/8ths it would be every 1-2 days. If I choose 1/2? Then it goes 7-10 days.

Everyone always mentions the fuel pump running hot. Isn't the fuel pump on modern cars cooled by the fuel running through it and not around it? It's probably why you never hear of OEM fuel pumps failing much these days, or at least not due to heat. The BMW ones that failed in the newer cars for example were manufacturer defects.

No worries man! If we could always put 20 gallons in and an overflow tank caught the overage, we’d be golden. :)

It’s always a balance between being conservative and doing it more often which adds up to more time spent.

For a year I commuted in my FJ about 55-60 one way. I filled up every 2-2.5 trips. Averaged about 3 times a week. Because the drives were so long, I ended up filling up at about a quarter tank. I run my taco farther. 1/8th or when the idiot light comes in.
