my 09 has a fuel gauge, it lets me know when the fuel tank is full, 1/2 full and empty, I love it... now the dirt bikes and some older street bikes I have had I wasn't so lucky. I think new vech has to much electronic shit to begin with.

    Wow, tough crowd!

Maybe I deserved some of the comments for me saying the "idiot light doesn't cut it".

In my defense, I did say in the original post, that I never ran out of gas. My last three vehicles all had a some sort of audible alert and a low fuel light.
Those of you who either live or traveled on Long Island, know that it's bumper to bumper traffic, and sometimes I pay more attention to the traffic then my truck.

    Lesson learned.

Out west here if you go below 1/4 tank full you could be walking :D
It can be 30~60 miles till the next station and in temps above 110
As for the comments about another warning (verbal) WE bought a TRUCK!

i never let my tak get to even 1/4, i use the fire truck protocol, usually the lowest it goes is 1/2 tank but i usually fill at 3/4 a tank

its also not goood for your truck to constantly go below 1/4th a tank i have heard

It depends. If you never let it go down that far than it is not good. I rarely fillup without the light being on (400+ miles on a tank). Of course I am going through at least a tank a week and since I bought it new.

If you don't let it go down that far, sediment tends to stay in the bottom of the tank... at least that is what I was always told.

My 09 Access Cab 4X4 4 banger SR5 does have a single chime when the low fuel light comes on.

Iwanted to test when it comes on during a long road trip and it suprised me when it came on with the beep because i was well above empty. I think mine is set at like 17 gallons, so i guestimate i actually have 4 gallons or so left until it is dry. That's almost 100 miles on the highway for me.

I can get just above 400 miles till the light comes on about 23.5 MPG on road trips which isn't too bad with A/C.:taco:

All of them come with an audible noise, when running out of gas. It is the sputtering noise of the engine when the gas is out!

    +1

I grew up driving a 1970 Buick Skylark - 350c.i. At 1/4 full, you could step on the gas and watch the gauge drop to E, and could briefly starve the engine of fuel with aggressive driving. That was a pretty good indicator that it was time to refuel.

Don't wanna hurt your feelings, but I've always called them idiot lights... that's what my dad called them. Especially for the gas low light.

i dont necessarily use my low fuel light but 90% of the time its on when i go to fill up... i know my avg mpg and reset the trip odom after each fillup, so i can go around 400 miles with out fear up running empty

Ever hear the buzzer with the TPS? I haven't on this truck, but my old titan would scare the shit out of you when the thing went off...
