Does anyone know if you can turn that warning off completely and just rely on the gas light coming on?

You also have to remember that when gas tanks are that low, the sensors don’t get a good reading on the fuel level when your truck is moving about. It’s almost similar the old school bobber, just more accurate but not perfect.

Thats pretty much how my 09 Corolla was with the real time mpg. Number changed every 2 seconds and was all over the place. I mean it would read like this 33.4. 45.4, 27.9, 38.9 59.3 in a matter of a few seconds. Completely unusable. that was round 1ish of this stuff. much better now.

Big thing is it never adds miles back on. So when you take off from a light it might read less distance available.

Exactly! If it was truly reflective of driving conditions it would bounce up and down. It doesn’t do that. It only bounces down. It’s silly.

That's an improvement over the 2nd gen. The light comes on with the gauge reading just above E but the tank actually has 4 gallons left which is almost 20% of the tank volume (same 21 gal capacity as Gen3). I can drive 60 miles easily with the idiot light on and usually more, though I don't have a fancy distance till empty computer.

There if about 2-3 gal left AFTER zero miles/ that means you can go 35 to 50 mile at empty ! / i have put 40 on just to check it out and had over 1/2 left when i filled it .
I am going to drop the sending unit and bent the arm down a little so it reads better ;) and there was a long thread on this last year some time.

Mine is accurately inaccurate. Based on quite a few calculations of running low and filling the tank, if I get to ZERO I actually have 30 miles left in the tank.

Wish someone would figure out a way to turn off the electronic warning that pops up and let us just rely on an old school gas light.

It ain't smart to ever see that light come on. I use the trip meter. I know how far I can drive on a full tank of gas. In normal daily driving at 250 miles I fill up at the next convenient time. On the road around 300 miles. I know I can drive farther and don't immediately stop at 250 or 300. But the next chance I get where it is easy to get in and out and at a good price I fill up. If in an area where fuel stops are farther apart, or if inclement weather is in the forecast I don't like to be below 1/2 tank.

What’s the scientific reason? I had a Subaru for 11 years, put 200k miles on it, and filled it at the warning light probably 80% of the time.

I didn’t own it for its whole life but my gen1 taco with 210k miles on it was filled near empty every time too. Never had any issues.

I’ve hit the “- - -“ miles to empty a few times. Ran at least 15 miles after and still have yet to put over 20 gallons into the 21.1 gallon tank

The extra gas in the take after "empty" is probably a safety thing - both for the fuel pump and the driver. A reserve for an emergency I guess but doubt it's a good idea to run it nearly dry.

As for whether or not the computer is accurate over those last 30 or so miles, who cares. All you need to know is it's time to fill up. I learned to drive when cars only had a needle gauge and it's easy to watch mileage and have a pretty good idea when to fill up regardless of what the needle (or computer) says.

Unless maybe you are from Oregon.

You must like debris in your fuel pump.
