Can't be worst than the "life time fluid" bullshit I've seen some manufacturers recommend for their transmissions.

Just out of curiosity, why would Toyota omit a means for owners to check their transmission fluid level or add any fluid if needed?

Cost. Plus the harder it becomes to do simple things the more money the dealership can potentially make, although this is more on the conspiracy side of things.

My truck does seem to take a couple seconds to get actually kick into gear when going from park/neutral into drive as well.

What the? there's absolutely nothing wrong with the truck...LOL :ohsnap:
    1. 500-600 rpm normal idle
    2. power steering kicks in
    3. normal/ happens on mine too.. the oil needs to warm up. i give it at least 3 seconds before i hit the gas on my first run of the day..

Please do not take your truck in there is nothing wrong w/ it. I have been a mechanic for 13 yrs. and I guarantee you they will just have a good laugh in the back office.. LOL

The OP says he is warming the truck for 3 to 5 minutes on a cold start , then selecting a gear and finding a couple second delay .
I am going to guess at a low fluid condition in the transmission just like what we found on the hundreds of 2nd gen owners trucks last year .
There is no charge and they do not check on PDI. The dealer said that if you randomly go in and ask them to check your fluid without presenting issues they could charge. They CAN NOT charge you (set by Toyota Policies) if you go in under warranty with a concern. they have to check the fluid as part of the warranty troubleshooting process.

3-5 min is not enough.. engine oil and trans oil warm up in different rates.. try 20-30 min and see if it skips when you put it in drive.. haha

I have noticed the cold lag and then jerk into gear in the mornings. In a few I'll be dropping it off at the dealer to get the fluid looked at. It will take a few for the tranny to cool down to be checked. Ill update once the check is done. Piece of mind while I don't need a ride is better than worrying about it.
