Dropped mine off at the dealer this afternoon. I could not duplicate the jerk/studder when going from reverse to drive with the tech riding with me. They are going to check the tranny fluid in the morning. The tech basically said the fluid level is determined in a similar way as it would be on a front or rear diff, basically if fluid is trickling out of the unit while the fill plug is removed then the level is where it should be, if not they add ATF fluid until it does. Does that sound right?

Has to be done at a certain temperature . The procedure is much the same as the second gen but sounds as if they added a step using the dreaded paper clip .

Find me that pdf file Mr Blue :broccoli:

@gearcruncher would be interesting plot the trucks with low trans fluid with the vin/factory and really nail this down.

Seems good after reverse into drive in the morning. This could be the break in or something.

Sorry to crush your conspiracy theory but a dealership has little to no incentive to lie to you about something like that.

What incentive does a dealer have to do labor on your truck, fix it, and then lie about it?

FWIW, Torque Pro seems to pick up transmission temperature for anyone wanting to check the fluid level themselves. At least when you select transmission temperature from the selection of parameters monitored you get a temperature. I am not sure how to conclusively tell that this is the AT oil temp.

Mine is at the dealer now, it was a half-quart low of ATF. Mine was shifting slow and hard from park to drive as well.

What exactly does the hard shifting feel like when cold? Can anyone explain in more in lamens terms since I'm a retard lol! JK.

I can't say I have noticed a hard shift from park to reverse or drive, but I am getting what feels like torque converter shudder from about 30-50mph when I'm crusing in 6th gear.

It feels like a hesitation almost or a constant little surge/bump. If I let off the gas it goes away or if I give it a little more gas it drops a gear and goes away. It only does it when I'm on the gas just slightly.

I'm really concered as both my wife and I feel it while riding in the truck and have flet it since day one. My first thoughts were low on tranny fluid, but don't trust the dealer to be truthful with me.

I plan to take it to the dealer, but have very little faith in my local dealer as they're horrible! I bought the truck 250 miles away or else I'd take it there.

For mine it would lag for a 3-5 seconds before shifting into drive or reverse and wasn't very smooth. Sometimes when decelerating from ~40 mph to a fairly quick stop, it would clunk out of gear. It was the worst when it was cold and before the tranny was warmed up. 1/2 qt. can make a huge difference!

My truck is doing this as well. It feels like a partial engagement, then a full engagement of drive. If you press the gas during partial engagement, the truck won't move much and then it will drop into gear with a harsh engagement. I'll have to take it to the dealership and see what they said. Oh joy.

Guys with this issue, what, if any, is the slant(angle) of your driveway? Do you get the same issue when parked overnight on level ground?
