It's made a drastic improvement overall. I haven't had any lag time in switching out of park, even in colder temps. I think it's shifting more smoothly overall as well. A lot of people are having low ATF volume issues, I'd just get it checked out to be sure!

I had some transmission fluid added to mine and that seemed to help but it still ocassionally still has the lag.

Check it today myself, as per repair manual. About 3/4 quart low.

I got mine checked about a month ago. It was about 3/4 quart low. It made a differ nice but I too still ha e some lag going from reverse to drive after the truck has sat for a bit. Once I had the lag going straight into drive after leaving a store. I'll have them check when I get my first oil change. I just hope it does not have long term damage waiting that long...

Still has the lag after adding fluid. Seems to be normal for this transmission/truck combo.

Mine seems to have gotten better over time. I'm over 2k on the ODO and the truck seems to be settling in nicely. Transmission doesn't hunt for gears as much and the MPG is in the 22-23 range consistently.

For comparison, my 2015 subaru legacy with the CVT does the same thing.

How did you get your transmission temperature before checking fluid level?

    See here.<br />https://www.tacomaworld.com/index.php?threads/63851/<br />How to Drain/Refill Automatic Transmission<br /><br />

The "D" indicator will blink and go out when it goes into check mode. When "D" comes back on, proceed with the level check. When it starts to blink, the fluid is past the checking temp. Let it cool down and try again. On the 3G, remove the jumper wire after its in temp check mode.

Again, work at your own risk. If you can't take responsibility for you own actions, let the dealer do it. Or pay for a repair manual and hear it strait from the horses mouth.

Same here. Mine is around 2,300 miles and feels much smoother overall.

I found this using my black belt in google-jitsu. It gives the layman a better understanding of the transmission check procedure (hell, it help me understand it better). I believe it's worth your time. Knowledge is power ladies and gentlemen.

Did you have fluid added as well?

I did not. I'll have them check into it when I take in for the 5k service.

Ok so we're on the same page then. Mine has the lag every now and then and im at 3100 miles. Honestly I don't think 3/4 quart low is enough to worry about. Am I wrong?

I look at it this way....the truck is under warranty. If the tranny shits the bed because it was low on fluid (that you can't check via dipstick) from the factory, thats on them. Its not something that I am going to sweat and will bring it up at the 5k service. At least then it will be documented and we can go from there.

I am going to do this over the weekend. When you say "On the 3G, remove the jumper wire after its in temp check mode." at which point do you mean. Obviously its gets removed when you are done but are saying remove it after it goes into temp check mode but even before the AT fluid is at temp?

That is correct, need to remove it after it goes into temp check mode.

Here is the wording from the manual:

    NOTICE:
Be sure that terminals TC and CG are not connected. If the
terminals are connected, the automatic transmission fluid level
cannot be precisely adjusted due to fluctuations in engine speed.
    HINT:
Disconnecting terminals TC and CG activates the engine idle
    speed control mode.
Even after terminals TC and CG are disconnected, automatic
transmission fluid temperature detection mode will be active
until the ignition switch is turned off.

Yes, remove the jumper once the truck goes into temp check mode then proceed to checking the fluid. It will stay in temp check mode until you turn the ignition off. Removing the jumper wire allows the ECM to stabilize the idle to properly read the level.
Btw, I made a jumper using a hair pin by removing the coating a bending it to fit. It's about the same size as the pins that are on an obd2 reader.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1450475804.083749.jpg

The lead tech told me this tranny fluid is finicky and that 3/4 low would make a difference, my problem is that I had it checked and was low 3/4 quartz but every now and then I still get the cold start lag.

Thank you, because of this post I picked up my truck last Friday and my biggest request was for them to check tranny fluid. Salesperson thought I was weird but I said it would be a deal breaker. All was well no issues after one week. Morning average ambient temp at start up has been around 40*

If the manufacturer sent every tranny out a quart low, with roughly 150k Tacos per year the bean counters could save about 150k bucks a year and most trans will function properly at a quart low. Not saying they do this but just a thought why alot of complaints on fluid levels.
