    Hi guys,

I recently bought a 2002 Tacoma v6 and it had a low idle (about 450rpm). I checked and of course there is no idle adjust on the throttle, not that I expected to see one. It has 175k miles on it so I thought I'd change the plugs and clean out the throttle body.

Spark plugs take two seconds in these! I was worried about the back one by the brake booster but it was easy with a long extension! Of course they were the wrong plugs and they were so loose I didn't even need a ratchet... Oh used car ownership...

Anyway, I wish I took a picture because I saw some junk in the idle air port in the throttle body but I couldn't get it out, so I had to pull the throttle body and remove the idle control valve. There, stuffed in the port, completely plugging it and jamming the valve, was a small bat! It was hilarious, gross, and satisfying to remove. Unfortunately my hands were dirty and I didn't want to crap up my phone to take a picture, but in hindsight I totally should have.

I cleaned it out, tossed it all back together and it idles great now! An hour well spent!

Thanx for posting both the problem AND the final solution. Those of us who maintain our own rigs need more of this.

Previous owner must have run without an air filter for a while for that bat to get in there.

    Yea, bat shit!

@undyingvisage58 you had to find the absolute cutest, most unobjectionable pic of a bat possible? They are disease carrying vermin and must be destroyed.

Hahah I'm not kidding. It was in the idle air valve inside the throttle body. And no it was not cute by any means, at least not anymore. I did notice there was a clamp missing on the airbox so my guess is, the intake was pulled apart for some reason and left that way for some time. And when the truck was started up again, the bat had a very bad day.
