    Hi all,
We have a very low miles engine and transmission from a 2013 Tacoma 4x4 automatic SR5 V6 from a wrecked truck.

What year and model of tacoma will this engine/tranny compatible with?

We are thinking of buying a high mileage Tacoma and swap the engine and tranny.

    Thanks

The transmission from a 4x4 will only work in a 4x4. The housing is different - 4wd versions have a flange to mount the transfer case vs. a tailshaft housing for the slip spline of the driveshaft on 2wd models.

also to use on a pre 2012 you will have to use the exhaust manifolds off an 05-11 as the 2012+'s have the air injection pump, You might be able to make block off plates for the 2012+ exhaust manifolds though.

But yes it should work, and idealy you would use a 2wd trans for a 2wd truck or 4x4 trans for a 4x4 truck.

Could possibly have some issues with engine electronics - honestly, don't know for sure.

That truck has "never been beaten or taken off road" so that 173,xxx miles really isn't "high mileage" in my opinion. I don't know, do what you want obviously but I would be inclined to get more life out of that engine and then do the swap in a couple years down the line.
