Just bought a new 2021 OR and after 2 weeks of city driving with no payloads the display is showing 16L/100KM or 14MPG.

I know lots of factors come into play but the number seems low?

Sounds like you are still in your break-in period. I noticed my fuel economy numbers increase after ~1,000 miles or so.

I routinely get 15mpg tank avg doing mostly city driving. On the highway I usually average 20mpg with a canopy and Thule box. This number actually increased from stock when I put on the canopy. This morning I idled the truck for a few minutes and the display told me I had averaged 12mpg on my two mile drive. Enjoy the new truck! :burnrubber:

I would manually calculate it and not trust what the computer says. It will break in. My 2020 TRD Sport DCSB 6MT with a canopy and 2" lift is giving my 20mpg consistently. And I drive it hard too so makes me wonder what would happen if I drove it civilized.

Oh I saw improvement after break in, some stretches doing 70mph for quite a while was reporting 30mpg - no lie -
Easy on the pedal I am and easy on extended acceleration... Short jaunts here and there gets crap but that is expected.

Give that think a good 2,000 miles and and see if it doesn't improve.

Agree with the above. Put some miles on it, let it break in and learn, then judge. Also, remember if you are using the MPG per tank readout and you idle for a few min shortly after filling your tank up, your MPG is going to nose dive. I trust my Fuelly numbers more than the MPG numbers the truck gives me, although after 2700 miles they are usually within 1 MPG of each other at the time of fill-up.

The MPG of these trucks (or at least mine) seem to vary wildly depending on how you drive. I'll routinely get 20+ around town/city. But I can also just as easily get abysmal mileage.

2016 I'm getting 15mpg... LOL... 33's stock gears, and heavy armor.... truck as it sits is probably tipping 5200lbs without my camping gear in it.

should not be breaking in engine in city

tooooooo slow runnin + tooooo much idling can hamstring an engine

no less the ECU/ECM has a minor memory

out & about varying engine rpm between 55- 75 will result in a healthy engine

    notice U r still ONLY using 1/3 to 1/2 rpm range.....................no stress

thing is the engine is breathing easy

For 4 years I have recorded and calculated my mileage. I have a life time average of 14.9 litres per 100 kms or 15.8 mpg. This is mainly city driving. It fluctuates from time to time. I have had 9.8 litres per 100kms or 24 mpg on a trip to Oregon. I have found that the mileage is almost spot on with Toyota's advertised numbers.

These are all calculated numbers, not from the dash readout.

I’m only getting an average of 16 mpg in the city and if I’m lucky, 18 mpg on highway. I’m not complaining, I know what I got myself into when I bought a Tacoma.

Thanks for the response guys! Much appreciated. Totally not complaining about it either… I didn’t get this truck for mileage.

One thing though I realize our tire pressures mean a lot for mileage and my dealership had my tires set at 32 which from what I’ve read is low. Will fill to 37 and see if that makes a diff.

Btw my other vehicle is a Tesla so I’m not driving the taco for mileage. I just like to know everything about my truck. It’s weird that some say you can’t talk about the Tacoma’s mileage like it’s forbidden lol

Also, let us know if you have an Auto if the ECT button is on or off. On gives you higher revs to shift points. Off should have better MPG. Maybe try it both ways and see which you prefer.

Exactly my experience. I have a 2020 with 10k miles. Find myself between in the 18-19MPG range most of the time.
