It’s pretty embarrassing that Toyota couldn’t shell out a few extra cents for the components in the amplifier to properly power the rear speakers. They would actually add a lot of sound to the truck if they actually received a few watts.

I don't hear any major difference in dB level between front/rear in my 2016 when i pan it back and forth.
It seems like this could be a wiring issue if the rear is so attenuated that you're struggling to hear it?
I don't get into car audio so I'm not going to be any help on specifics.

I'm still more shocked someone got someone to fit back in the back seats,,,, let alone a "friend".

Changing speakers will possibly make it worse. I added a Rockford Fosgate amps behind the head unit and it simply kicks ass. I also upgraded the dash speakers with Rockford Fosgate two way tweeter/speaker for some crisp highs, then added a Rockford amp/sub combo that fits behind the pass side rear seat as if it was made for our trucks. The unit sounds freaking awesome now and also added a little sound deadening material on the doors. All for under $1k .

See! It’s a feature! Dogs have much more sensitive hearing, they don’t need the higher volumes levels.
Dogs make much better copilots than humans. They don’t bitch about anything and there’s never a stray French fry left under the seats!

A 4 channel amp, like $500 bucks. I will have to get the model number tomorrow. Any good quality amp is going to be an improvement but I was going on sound advice from my friend who owns a high end shop here in town. The RF amp/sub combo and the front 2/1 tweeters. I just stayed with Rockford as I have been happy with the sound I got and like their products. I went on his solid advice on a great product and yes there is better stuff out there but for the money I have in the system it sounds amazing, louder and clearer and all the boom and clear punch I get from a very respectful 8 inch sub which hit hard for what it is. The amp now controls the speakers and not the head unit. His advice was the factory speakers are not too bad and when and if I want a little better sound or when I think I need more to upgrade the speakers next but for now I'm solid!

Want it louder and don’t want to spend any money tie the backs in with the fronts but I did change all my door speakers but the backs are tied with fronts now sounds perfect now to me.

If I do speakers late the rears will be upgraded to 6x9. You get a better choice and better sound.

'Want it louder for a limited time, but eventually blowing out the speakers, or worse your factory head unit, by forcing the system to run at the wrong impedance levels? Do this'

Its been said in this thread previously, The rears are intentionally lower as a part of the sound staging.
    Not to your taste?
    Install a four channel amp.
