Lots of things can cause a CEL but many of them aren’t urgent fixes

Last CEL I got on my wife’s car was some emissions/ evap BS and a new gas cap fixed it.

Check oil and coolant and if both are present then motor on until you can get the code read. Lack of either means you have seconds to minutes before causing serious damage.

Neither. Low oil level is indicated by the Dipstick.

I wouldn't rely on it as an oil level warning indicator, but if the oil level gets low you'll probably/hopefully see some VVT range/performance codes such as p0011 or p0018. The codes are trying to tell you that there isn't enough oil pressure available at the camshaft actuator to induce any movement.

The CEL shouldn't be used as a oil level indicator but there are certainly a handful of trouble codes that can/will show up when the oil gets low

That's a bad thing, mean's it's on the verge of being catastrophically low on oil (i.e engine failure).

Basically this comes down to - the oil level is meant to be checked via the dipstick, relying on a vehicle's computer to tell you it's low on oil means you are critically low and need to stop neglecting the truck lol.

Brutal isn't it? People rely on gauges and lights to tell them everything about whats going on on their $40,000 plus vehicle. instead on popping the hood themselves and checking the dipstick for one of the most important things for their engines. OIL!! Takes what, a whole minute? (Including opening and closing the hood)
But instead they'll trust a light on their dash, that by the time it comes on, damage is most likely already being done.

I'm not sure what any of you are talking about. Our trucks don't even use oil. You just put refined hydrocarbons into the "710" cap.

That's because the pressure drops when the pickup tube is exposed to air when the oil sloshes to the side. No windage tray to prevent this.

The secret is to check and top up so its never low.

God if you are ever seeing a low oil / low oil pressure light on the regular and rely on it then you deserve blowing up your motor .

And sealed diffs and transmissions....people anymore just simply dont care or can't be bothered to do anything manually and easy maintenance gets overlooked leading to costly repairs, so manufacturers are having to adapt to our laziniess lol. It's sad really.

    OME and worth every penny.
There are also more and more people who wouldn't know or even want to know how to check oil.

Not that manufacturers want us to anyway, they want us to think it's all black magic and to hail them as saving us from ourselves so we'll have more time to Instagram their product.

    Well, JMO.
