I bought this truck in April so this is my first winter with it. And every time it gets colder
Than 30 the low tire pressure light comes on and off to the gas station I go. I live in PA. So this will be all winter and 1.00 for air every time. Is this common? Any remedies? I have the alloy stock rims on my 2011 tacoma sport. Any help I’d appreciate!

Mine did the same, and it was a TPMS leak. Might be worth getting a TPMS stem rebuild so you get new gaskets.

The colder it gets the less air pressure your going to have in your tires. If your driving to the gas station to fill them your tires are warming up on the way there and will be at a higher pressure than when they cool off. Fill them a little higher or reset the TPMS when they are cold

How about check it with a gauge and see if any of the tires are actually leaking? If you are repeatedly putting in more air, you have a leak.

I thought there was a way of setting the system so it only lights up when you are 10 PSI below recommended pressure.

I haven’t had this happen since I had new tires installed over a year ago with temps ranging from 10°-100°.

That is how it works. Air the tires up to where you want them then use the TPMS Reset procedure in the owners manual to set that pressure as the reference.

My understanding is per federal requirement, TPMS lights up when any tire drops 25% below whatever it was when the system was last reset. So if 32 when last reset (either 1 tire or multiple) drop to/below 24 the dash lights up. And as mentioned above will go out if you drive enough to warm the tires up and get pressure to/above 24.

It is basic physical science. When temps are hot air pressure increases, when it is cold air pressure decreases. This has been happening as long as people have been using pneumatic tires. People who check the air pressure in tires have always had to do this when the weather gets cold.

What tire pressure are you running? Do you have a decent tire gauge?
    Try this :
Air up your tires to 38 at your gas station.
Next morning (at home) adjust pressure to what you want before driving - try 32. Do this early am, and if parked outside before sun gets on tires.
Follow instructions from your owner manual to reset TPMS.
If you still have a problem, you DO HAVE A Leak or a failing battery in one or more of your TPMS sensors.

If I understand correctly, aluminum rims bleed a certain amount of air, not quickly, but over time they do. Coupled with cold temperatures you will need to put some air in from time to time. Side note, $1 for air!? Go get yourself a little 1 gallon air compressor and enjoy your unlimited nearly free air.

Alloy wheels are notorious for this. On cold days, mine will increase 5 -7lbs once I start driving & they change from square to round. But this is extreme cold. If it persists, get the wheel beads cleaned, apply a thin amount of bead sealer & you should have no problems. $1.00 for air? Started when service stations became gas stations. Sad.

Give the OP a break with the sarcasm, he hasn't been a member too long and has only 14 posts to this point.
OP, mine does the same in the winter, its not an issue as others have stated. I have a little compressor I keep in the garage just for this.

It has nothing to do with how long they've been a member or how many posts they have. It's common courtesy. If I needed to know what to set the fidget valve clearance at on my XC81C Widget, and I asked on a public forum, I would be checking for answers every 5 minutes and thanking those that answered.

Half the reason I put an air compressor in my truck is because I never had quarters to run the gas station air compressor...when you find one that actually works. Works really well for little stuff like this.

But like others have said, temperature and pressure are directly related. Mssr. Gay-Lussac would like a word:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay-Lussac's_law#Pressure-temperature_law

    One more thing ...
There is a 5th TPMS sensor ... On the spare!
My TPMS light kept coming on even though I was certain the pressure on all 4 were matched and good. I flipped my spare to have the valve facing down and towards the rear so I could access it.

Never had this problem with aluminum wheels.

But, I use All Season Air so that helps.
