Went in for first 5k service. My 18 taco dcsb or with PREM/tech has 4500 miles. And has oem tonneau. I was checking out a 19 4Runner OR premium while I waited. Had forgotten what a few inches in more headroom meant. A sales guy asked me if I wanted to take it for a spin. I said I didn’t want to waste his time as I would have to trade in my taco if I were to get serious. He looked at my taco in service and said he would give me $30,500. When I said no. He said how about I’ll make it an even 31k. I laughed and still said no. I do like the 4Runner. My last one was a 2016 limited I was unimpressed with the features after awhile. Hence why I looked at the 4Runner off road instead today. Still love my taco but I’m 6”00ish and with some bumps my head hits the headliner. When I test drove my truck the roads were smooth just redone. I bought my truck an 1hr away from my home . Anyways. I am crazy to think 31k is too low for trade.

Way too low. But it’s their business to do exactly that. Some people bite. Like those ridiculous scam calls and emails.

I couldn’t stand the sunroof/low ceiling thing. That, among few other things, I switched to a no-sunroof model. Plenty of headroom now.

its low... but your gonna lose value trading it so soon. they all lose value that quick but it doesnt continue to go down. gotta keep it 10 years (about) or so to really feel good about retained value.

Kbb is saying around $34,800. Does that sound right?

    Is yours 4wd or 2wd?

Dealer has got to make money off the trade. New OR 4X4 is 40k and they'll go down to 37-38 usually? So they sell a used for about 35 and hassle for 33.5k. 31 k sounds about right for a trade in.

One Rep told me they lose anywhere from
12-18% in value as soon as they leave the lot, i was quoted 24.5k for my sr and i think privately selling I could squeeze maybe another grand out of it but I'd eat some serious cash if I wanted to trade up

I was offered $33.8k on my 2017 TRD OR DCSB 4WD w/tech-prem-jbl and 12k miles 2 days ago when I was thinking about moving to a Voodoo Blue TRD Pro, that was a sh*t trade offer you got for sure. Even the Jeep dealer offered me $32k when I was looking at a JLU Rubi earlier this month.

Yeah but they would offer you 40 if you were paying 60 for a new pro ... trade in value means nothing if you aren't comparing it to the price you are paying for the new truck. It's a moving target.

Carmax might offer you more. They seem to sell private party on here around the 35k mark

Does the sunroof lose that much head room? I'm 5-11 and feel like I have plenty of room :notsure:

One thing you do need to figure in is that you can deduct your sales taxes from the trade in value. Here it's 6% so a 30K trade in means a drop of $1800.00 in the OTD new vehicle cost.

I will never understand why some people seem to put zero serious thought into buying a car.
Buy it... few months later “meh, I don’t like this no more... I’ma just go buy a different thing”

You must have money leaking from every orafice you have.

Plus if you are OK with going with a 4Runner then you bought a truck you didn’t need.

I would suck it up and keep the Tacoma rather than piss away money on something else. Especially since both purchases seem like impulse buying.

Depends will they sell the 4 Runner to you at or below invoice? If so you can't expect the dealership to give you above trade in value for yours.
And as stated above the sales tax break you'll get for trading in.

You’re not going to just walk into a good deal on a whim. If you want a good trade in value and a good sale price on your next vehicle, patience and a whole lot of research is key. Go to carmax and carvana, get their buyout price. Take that with you and make sure you don’t get a cent less than that in the form of trade in + tax incentive. And only whip that out AFTER negotiating a sale price on the new ride, which is a whole different aspect of the game. Do this with 3-4 dealers and make the best deal.

I guess it depends on your @$$ or lack of! I'm 5'-9" and inherited my mother's. :annoyed: I have about two fingers of clearance. If I get inside the Taco and my hair is crazy I can feel it touching the roof.

Seriously though I think it depends on one's torso.

I want to trade up, but I was also backed into a corner from the get go I've wanted a truck for years now, but wanted to save a little more until I went shopping for one, but of course shut happens, earlier this summer I blew my radiator and ac condenser which led to a blown head gasket. (Yes not to expensive I know) but time consuming I have a demanding job and I could only get one day off of work so I went straight to toyota and ended up test driving an sr sn sr5 and an or but I was very limited with my time i ended up pulling the trigger on an SR I love the truck I just wish I had more time to really think it over.

It sucks to feel rushed on a big purchase. In fact feeling that way means you understand the importance of a decision.

OP just invents a reason to impulsively buy a 4Runner for no reason.
    And a new one.

I guess if people are paying cash it doesn’t matter.

I hate buying new vehicles. I want to do it as infrequently as possible.
    Cars cost too much.
