Just rushed through the PDI(Pre-delivery Inspection) and didn't do what was suppose to be done or it was a dealer trade and the trading dealer didn't care. The shift quality should have been a key indicator to an experienced technician.
Even after checking the fluid(Trickles out) on those transmissions after replacing the plug a certain amount of fluid is supposed to be filled to ensure the correct amount.

V6, took it in for 5k maintenance, transmission was 1.5 qts low...

The maintenance manager was relatively straight up, and said this has been a common occurrence, i had to press him a little though.

I wasn't happy either...paying so much and having an error like this...rediculous!

If your transmission is low the dealer will document it. I went in and stated symptoms that were also documented. If it is low the dealer will document this in your vehicle records that Toyota can access.

Armed with this evidence you then have a case you can stand on with facts documented by a Toyota Dealer.

I hope it goes well with you

I had Crown Toyota in Ontario check mine yesterday and I was down a little more than a quart. My transmission seems smoother now and doesn't wind out at passing speeds.

I have a 16 Tacoma with the V6 and towing package, I noticed the transmission shifting erratic, hard shifting as well as a whining sound. I purchased the truck on April 18 16. Had the dealer check the fluid level, service manager stated there was a TSB from Toyota about the issues with the transmission but I have not been able to find one. Receipt I was given from the service manager said they had to add 3 quarts of fluid to get it to the right level. Does anyone know what the paper is that the mechanic fills out when the vehicle is delivered to the dealer to check everything. I would like to know the name of the form. Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about the PDI - Pre-Delivery Inspection?

I think it has been said before that PDI doesn't include the transmission fluid check because it is a sealed design, and in theory, should not be needed.

It's obvious the manufacturing process has a flaw right now. I will be glad when that is fixed and these reports stop coming in.

Anyone want to speculate when that will happen? Christmas?

It's called PDI, just curious though, if you already had your fluid checked and filled are you still having issues? If you are you could try disconnecting the battery to erase the learned memory. As for the TSB, I'll save my receipt for the transmission fluid I buy, maybe they'll reimburse me.

Spoke to my salesman (he's my brother....) so he'd ask to the service department. I always get better answers that way.

I also have a feeling I have the same issue since it shifts weird and when on cruise control, sometimes it won't shift at all and I have to press the gas pedal in order to "force" it to shift into 6th gear.

Service rep told me that (I'm in Canada btw) there is a Technical Service Bulletin to adjust the shifting delay between 2nd and 3rd gear. What the hell does that even mean!

Anyway...don't really care since he told me to take an appointment and that they will check trans fluid level at the same time.

    I'll keep you guys posted.

I am not getting the whining noise but it has to relearn again so time will tell. I don't like the downshifts going up the slightest hill.

I think the Transmission cooler is the small rad in front of your main rad. Looks like a narrow lunch box.

Sooooo, going to pick up my Taco from being at the dealer ALL day getting transmission fluid level checked. Ended up being a quart low on my brand new truck. Not happy that I had to find this out on my own by reading on a forum. Although, I am very grateful for y'all!!! Y'all possibly saved me a lot of future headaches with this had I not found out. I just don't get why Toyota hasn't done something about this. There needs to be a recall. Period. Thanks again for this forum!

I don't know how reputable this site, not sure if it worth registering and complain. I noticed that 8 ppl already complained about transmission on 16'
    What do you think people?
