How did you add your Kicker Key 200 amp? Did you have to use an in-line add amp? or a PAC amp pro?

For under a $1k I added a Rockford amp/sub combo that fits neatly and looks factory behind the rear pass side seat, added a Rockford amp behind the head unit and Rockford 2 way dash speakers. Sounds absolutely amazing, rear speaker volume has changed for the better. Don't sell the factory front door speakers out just yet. They sound great when added power and are very clear sounding. Overall the power of the amps made my system sound great, louder, clearer and the sub hits hard and super clear, just what I wanted.

not sure. I had the key installed at a stereo shop. But when I installed my sub, I used this Add an Amp Amplifier Adapter Interface to Factory OEM Car Stereo Radio System for Select Toyota Vehicles- Add Subwoofer Bass Amp - No Factory Premium Amp- Vehicles Listed Below https://www.amazon.com/dp/B087Z1794K

My 2016 Access Cab has low volume in the back too. Luckily for me only my dog rides in the back and I want to save his hearing. I love Toyota vehicles but if Toyota ever branched out into the home audio business, I will pass

I'm about to upgrade my speakers and add a subwoofer, and the stereo shop recommended I leave the rear speakers alone. "If you want to give us your money, we'll take it, but if it was my truck, I wouldn't do it."

don't need to. the best toyota feature is that the stereo still uses the same 1986-present wiring harness to plug in any stereo you want!

What amp did you throw behind the head unit? I was planning to do the rockford amp/sub as well until I found out about the rear speakers being bad. Was thinking of a whole amp system for the speakers and sub but didn’t wanna throw away all the space behind the seats or have an amp under front seats so an amp behind the head unit is a great solution

Please forgive me in advance. I'm enjoying an aged oak tasty beverage prior to kicking off the new year...

Yesterday, I upgraded my sound system and would like to share any information that might help the next taco owner who's looking to improve the stock sound system.

I own a '23 tacoma with the standard stereo setup (non-JBL?). The volume was weak and I had to crank it up to hear above the road noise of my tires at highway speeds. At first, I went into a custom audio place to add an 8" powered subwoofer tucked behind the rear seat storage. However, I told the expert that I'm looking for more volume from all of my speakers. He recommended I first try:
    1. Audio Control Processor (ACO LC71)
    2. JL Audio Amp (JK RD4004)
    3. Toyota T-Harness (PAC LPHTY02)
    4. 8AWG power kit...
For parts and labor to install, it set me back $1100.00. I'll confess that I have a few more bucks than spare hours in a day so I let them install it.

The sound is much more powerful, but want to be able to feel "The Professor," Neil Peart craft one of his solo's. So perhaps it's a 2 or 3 step process for me.

The 2nd step they recommend is to upgrade my door speakers to the Focal 690AC as well as Focal 1" tweeters. This second step will set me back around $700. (I'm going to give the first step two weeks to see if I should advance to the next level.)

After that, If I need more punch, I'm going to install their recommended 8" powered subwoofer behind one of the rear seats without any customization. I believe it was an 8" JL setup (don't have the part number handy).

In general, I'm not looking to rattle windows or upset the neighbors, but do require an experience with music when I drive.

I hope this helps someone and I'm sorry if I'm off topic, but want to wish everyone a happy new year! Cheers!

It was a Rockford 400 watt amp, not sure of the model number. The Rockford amp/sub combo fits perfect behind the pass side rear seat, looks oem and its perfect. Nice hard punch, super clear and has that nice balanced sound without all that hard thump. The dash amp made the whole system louder and super clear. Don't trade out the oem speakers just yet as mine came alive after it was all done. The did change out the dash tweeters to a Rockford 2in1 tweeter speaker combo. The Kicker tweeter is just too much highs in the sound as the 2/1 is just a better cleaner high sounding speaker.

I upgraded to a Sony AX6000 head unit. Everything sounds better and I now have CarPlay. But can’t say rear speakers showed any improvement.

I am not a huge audiophile, but I do enjoy cranking up the tunes on my drive. I have zero intent to replace the headunit or spend much $$$. I have tweaked my phone EQ (using android auto for music) and it helped alot. I have kinda conceded to the fact that the rear needs more than a speaker swap, and it works best faded to the middle. I don't mind the front speakers, the highs are good enough for me, and the doors put out decent bass (the phone EQ made a difference here). Now I am focusing on leveling up the front sound stage a little, stronger across the freq range. Looking at maybe 2 ways in the dash, and a door speaker upgrade.... and/or a underseat powered woofer... surfing forums for options.

I hated the stock system and replaced it all the first week after I bought my truck. Fosgate tweeters, Fosgate front and rear speakers, and added an Alpine Power Pack mini amp behind the radio. I also installed the Fosgate PS-8 powered amp and sub under the drivers seat since I have an access cab. Amazing difference.

If you can recall any details such as fit, modifications, so on I would appreciate the feedback.... I like the idea of the 3.5 2-way in the dash, but not the idea of having to do alot to make it fit.... I'll do some more searching in the meantime. Again thanks for any details.

I think the installer may have drilled out a hole or two or may have cut out a bracket but it was fairly simple from my understanding.

Ok. I thought you did the install, my apologies. Seems its a tight fit, but as you said fairly simple. :fingerscrossed:
