Yeah, doubtful he did, and even more so that he didn't use locktite.

Might warrant a quick "ya done f'd up" call to your buddy...

    Wait...
    What...

HE was "flaming pissed" at you? WTF?

I'll tell you this much. That shit happened to me, like it just did to you... after I saw the bolts FELL OUT of a critical companant like an LBJ... I wouldn't have called, I would have gone down to his shop. And they damn near would have had to call a fucking SWAT team to calm me down.

Visually the ball joint looks fine and they have no play in any direction after falling off.
No man I was flaming pissed at him, I lost it on him on the phone. he’s paying for new ball joints or were gonna have a big issue.

Look at all that Cali rust ugh!

They didn't come with the dust boot covers? I don't think it's a critical component but mine have a square rubber cover that wraps around the grease filled boot you see there.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

Are those the LBJs that were (supposedly) replaced 3000 miles ago?

If so, me and that guy would have major problems. I replaced my LBJs over a year ago and don't look like that. The LBJ bolts have WAY more rust than they should, that castle nut does not appear new, and that cotter pin doesn't either.

No way I believe LBJs look that way in 3000 miles anywhere in CA.

Maybe it's true... no way I believe it.

I had that rubber thing on my original LBJs. some of the holes the bolts run through were ripped. I've looked for them to replace them (figure they way keep debris out of the actual ball/socket... at least can't hurt) Can't find them anywhere.

yeah they probably aren't sold separately, I think they come as part of the OEM package when you buy new ones. I had my LBJs replaced at Toyota a couple years ago and they came with boots, unless they just reused my old ones...not 100% sure.

This is about what my 555's look like after a little more than a year. It's just a little surface rust. I'm not worried about that.

Oh, I'm not saying that surface rust is a problem. I'm saying I don't believe there's a place anywhere in CA that rust would occur to that extent in 3000 miles.

But then again... 3000 miles happens in a month for me. I don't know how much that truck is driven. Could be 6 mo, 12 mo. I don't know.

But those LBJs don't look like they've been replaced anywhere near recently.

Not to me anyway... maybe I'm way off.

Up in Tahoe...my leaf spring bolts and other components that weren't stainless steel got mad surface rust on them after just 5 days of driving around there this past winter. I dunno about LBJ components but it was surprising to see on some of the other nuts and bolts on my truck. They use a chemical up there on the roads that's supposedly better than road salt but I dunno about that lol.

Its a brine mix of magnesium chloride and salt. Superrrrrr corrosive and very very bad for your car. People in NJ talk about washing their cars every time they salt the roads. The brine sticks to metal more and works its way into cracks and holes unlike salt which most of the time just bounces off.

Yup, that happened in November 2017. Totally sucked. I had the shits super bad for a week. This was right in the middle of all that. Nothing like working on the truck while being interrupted every 10 - 20 minutes. At least we were on a really nice section of beach.

I can't remember the name of the stuff they used, might be what you're describing, but I do remember that it looked like the streets were lined with the blue crystal meth from Breaking Bad
