Lower ball joint replacement for the 1st time

    Yes, safety recalls never expire...so long as it wasn't done already you're still eligible if you're part of the recall list. Only a handful of 01 - 04 I think are though. Was a small bad batch that got out from the factory that triggered it.

    The design of our LBJs isnt great so no matter what it's good to check them regularly and replace them as soon as they show any visible sign of play

    Luckily ours aren't riveted into the arm like some truck's have, I think that's where the OPs rivet confusion comes from. I think the domestic trucks have riveted ball joints so they usually just replace the entire arm

    The recall? No it was only issued for later year 1st gens, sometime between 01 - 04. Was a batch that got out with a scratch on the ball joint that increased the chance of failure
