I'll second this. I put NAPA on mine and got about 5k before they started to knock. Replaced with OEM but I'd be comfortable with Moog if I had to do it again.

Around $26,000 worth of unleaded in the fuel tank.
Pump some grease into the grease fittings if the ball joints are the kind that have them. I think only the female ones have them.

    "Female ones"? ?

I've done, and still do a lot of driving on rough, two-track "roads" in eastern Nevada and eastern Utah. Some of them a big-horn would think twice about walking on.

I have very little confidence in engine, steering, or drive train parts that are not Genuine Toyota Parts, and gladly pay the difference between those and what you get from an auto parts store. Makes me feel good when I'm 30 miles down some dusty, hard-to-see, washed-out, god-forsaken two-track that's another 75 miles from the nearest garage...

Then why ask a forum of real world experienced enthusiasts, like 1 person said 555 everyone else said oem

No but generally if I ask for advise I tend to listen to what more seasoned members say... plus that gen is notorious for lbj failure. Why try and save 50-100 that could prevent 1000’s in damage

I liked my advice like I like my steaks, well seasoned

At any rate I think this particular debate boils down to the age old one of 555 vs OEM, and I do think there's enough evidence to support 555s being a legit substitute. I don't know if I've seen an LBJ failure mentioned on here yet that was with a 555 one. Lots of failures from other aftermarket brands and OEM that were well past needing replacement.

Even OEM probably shouldn't be run over 50k if you use the truck hard, there's a member on here that changes his OEM ones almost every 10k because they start to develop play. Checking them regularly no matter what brand they are is the best thing to do. No matter what brand you get it's just not a very stout LBJ design in general which is likely why Toyota went with a different one on 2nd gens.
