    Can't really compare the design of your 2nd gens to the 1st gen lower ball joint design. Ours are much more likely to fail due to the design itself.

    Just ask when should these be changed out? I have 241000 on my truck. And have never been changed yet

    A lot of people subscribe to the interval of replacing them every 100,000 miles since these balljoints have a history of failing and failing without any noticeable symptoms leading up to the failure.

    Ok thanks guys. Is it a easy thing to do or should I have it done when I have it in for the timing belt? I know they have nothing to do with each other but my mechanic skills are nill. Did my steering rack that was enough for me.

    I had 245k on mine and they had 1/16 of movement. It wasn't until I joined TW that I learned of the Taco bad BJ issue. New OEM ones now.

    Dude, use the video I provided on the 2nd page of this thread and you'll be golden. You can rent pullers at most auto parts stores for free. Please don't use a pickle fork or the neanderthal hammer technique to separate the outer tie rod from the knuckle of the LBJ and to separate the LBJ from the lower control arm. Pullers work every time and they don't damage anything.

    Would you happen to know the torque spec for the four 14 bolts? I just did my lower ball joints and torqued it to 37ft-lb with red locktite. I thought it was more before and blue loctite but I went off the low range off-road how to video. Just want to double check.

    It's 59 ft-lbf and blue loctite. Red locktite is not needed for this application. You might have a hard time breaking those loose in the future.

    Just tighten it more to 59. Still has red lock tight though. It felt tight already when I started to tigthen it. Most likely from the locktite. I'll double check it again in a couple of days
