For those who didn't know, Toyota had recalls on the lower ball joints around 2002 through 2004. Mine recently broke on my '99 and gave me a scare, I would urge everyone to check them out for safety.

Heres a link to some recalls throughout the years if you wanna take a look at some.

So I'm looking at this recall, it says Toyota will replace it free of charge (it includes 2002 4Runners)? Does this include a 3" lift with 33s?

Yeah I took mine in to have a lower ball joints replaced with the lift/tires. No problem. Free of charge, even the alignment.

Ok cool. Thanks. Hopefully I'll have the same luck you did. :D

Did you just print out the recall and bring it? Or did you just take it in and they did it with no hassle?

I called them first and they ran the VIN and confirmed that there was a recall so we scheduled the replacement. I guess if they give you shit, run the VIN on the Toyota website and bring in the print out.

A recall is a recall, they should replace it no matter the condition.

Looks like it only covers '01-'04. Could always double check with the dealer or the toyota site I guess.

What is the torque spec on the 4 bolts that hold the ball joint on?

It will start squealing bad when you turn and hit bumps really bad like a ford explorer, then you NEED to replace them! I heard mine squeaking for about 4 or 5 days prior to it coming apart.

Rock auto has the best prices by far. Some websites will tell you there cheaper, and iv even seen a site that showed you other sites prices and what they said rock auto charged was a lie. Rock auto is the cheapest. I also say if you can afford it get moog, there the best design. There serviceable with grease through a Zerk fitting and seem more durable than stock.

X2....and don't confuse the inspection turning torque of 17-34 ft lbs on the ball stud like I did lol...noticed luckily on the second side so I just had to take off the cotter pin and retorque...

It's actually odd that for a nut that has to line up on a cotter pin hole won't have a torque range...I think that's why I confused it because I was expecting should
