Some years ago I met a man with an exceptional pedigree with Tacomas. He told me that the lower ball joints, while reliable, were the most common failure point on the trail. This was long enough ago that I wonder if he was talking about 2nd Gen. Anyone have knowledge in this area? Thanks

Definitely 1st gen, the lower ball joints configuration was completely revamped and inverted for the 2nd gen which is the same as the 3rd gen and while they shouldn't be forgotten about they're not the Achilles heel they were on 1st gens.

1st gens are time bombs for ball joints.

2nd gens are only bad on lifted models, I rarely call them on 2nd gens. Most of the time its uppers.
