Thanks for the link. It's much easier, faster, etc to just do this myself. I'd rather make it on record but one less trip to the dealership for a $14 price is worth it. I'd rather just order them and have it finished in 5 minutes versus taking time off and waiting for hours or dropping the truck off to have the service person messing around with it.

had mine done, first appt. was a wash since when they ordered the kit, only 1 plug came in instead of the 6. apparently each kit is a single plug so you have to order 6 kits. anyway dropped it off sunday night, was called at noon to come pick it up. service tech noted that the whistle is gone.

its the wardens truck so I haven't driven it since the service was done to comment.

So I followed the steps shown on the TSB to tape up the 3 holes on the bottom of the LCA and see if the howling goes away. Well it didn't go away. I was still hearing the howling around 40mph and it wasn't dependent on crosswinds. Then I took a look at the thread "https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/solved-howling-noise-between-35-45.410480/" and noticed that TacoBella taped the larger hole that is on the top of the LCA. Well I taped that hole and now the howling is gone. Now I'm wondering why the TSB doesn't work on my truck. I doubt using plugs instead of tape would make a difference. Has anyone had the same experience? For reference, I had a 2017 TRD Off-road DCLB. At this point, if I take into the dealer and they do what I did and see that the howling doesn't go away, they probably won't know what else to do. I'm fine doing it myself. For those of you who have done the TSB, did they put a plug on top of the LCA? Also, has anyone gone into the dealer to have this TSB done and the howling not go away? Thanks

My Tacoma has 3,300 miles on it and I hear the noise from the left front of the vehicle, especially on windy days. If I run it through the car wash, the noise is even louder until the truck dries.

Does the dealership always use the tape to troubleshoot the issue or do some of them just install the plugs?

TSB's are applied when the troubleshooting flowchart requirements are met, the tape is just to test with because it's cheap. They pay .5 hour for the technician to pop these plugs in and it only takes 3 mins or less to do. The test drive will take longer to do than popping the plugs in. Cost of time/fuel and money are more important to some folks than that whole job for waiting around to get done. The holes are 15mm and some have already sourced the plugs on their own to plug themselves. Doesn't even require vehicle to be placed on the lift.

My dealership just changed owners. They wouldn't confirm this...acted like I was nuts.. Wish I found this tsb number earlier. They wanted $11 per plug...$66.00. ( ITS NO WONDER CARS are this expensive these days.). Didn't have them in stock and would only order them IF the service technician confirmed the condition. Mine only does it on windy days. Went to Lowes and bought 6 of them for about $3 bucks total.

My dealership just did it with no problems or questions asked. I had the parts mgr order the plugs by giving her the part #. I then told the service advisor that I had howling from the LCAs at 25-45mph and gave her the TSB #. It should be covered under warranty so $0 out of pocket.

All Toyota dealers are not created equal!!! You would think some of these horsey dealerships would get in trouble with corporate office.

If they refuse to help, you can ask to speak to the GM followed by corporate if needed. If you have a known problem that they refuse to address than they don't have much ground to stand on
