Thanks, my buddy has a waterjet that made the cuts nice and clean once we drew the plan on the pc. First time using one of these for me..

As soon as you told me that based on YOUR experience the frame will bottom out before the shocks I thought this sounded good enough to me and I took your word for it.. heck you are the originator of the "Lowered BS Thread" after all which makes you the current expert in the "world"!!

If my shocks go out I am glad I have the mjbtaco guarantee to fall back on here!!

Responded to my original thread in street trucks but have a separate question about differences between 2nd gen 4x4/Prerunner and X-Runner leafs. Based on what I've found in the forum, 4x4/Prerunner leafs seem to provide a 1.5-2" drop over stock while XRunner leafs are de-arched and should provide about a 1" drop - does this check out? Also haven't been able to find info about comparative ride quality other than both are "stiffer" than stock.

Last, can anyone confirm that only the 2nd gen 4x4/prerunner leafs have the "floating end" on the middle leaf (see pic):
The leafs have been coated so I can't see the part #s.

Thanks in advance for your help!

My truck is lowered. Adding the XR leaf springs, netted me a little lift ,over the original 4x4 springs, as well as a stiffer set of springs. Which also translated to less axle wrap.

Pretty sure the XR leaf springs look the same.

Ah, gotcha - that helps, thanks! I’ll try to do a bit more investigation to see what I have. I found some XR springs for sale, definitely more worth considering than I originally thought. Appreciate the help!

I made some progress; haven’t seen this documented before so maybe it will be helpful.

Found some stock front springs for my base Tacoma, and made the swap. I forgot to take pics before getting started, but here is a pic of base (left) vs xrunner (right) front springs:

    79E29771-E9B5-4DD1-8805-D4853356CB2B.jpg

Measured with a cheap caliper, they’re about 1 3/4” shorter, and Xrunner coil is slightly thicker. Used the same bilstein shock.

Start: front was 15 1/4” axle to fender. End: axle to fender is now about 16 1/4”. I’m thinking it may settle some in the next few days so I’ll make note of there is any significant change. I also changed the bump stops on the Calmax control arms (one actually, the other I think is stripped and won’t unscrew) - a lot less banging around now

Coilover diameter is 2 in iirc . So barely clears axle ? Also depending on adustment adjuster n
So looks close hard to tell . So coilover is 2in od . Pretty much even with lower shock mount

And how far up adjusting nut is . This is about the sos kit height . I did have it 1/2 in lower but with my tires would barely scape a small section of fender liner over speed bumps so raised it to about the sos kit height .

Looks like a tight fit. Curious how the axle changes distances if any when turning.

After my Tacoma was lowered and the bs had settled..

I decided to take Trudy out for my first ever autocross at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana a couple weeks back. Thought some folks here may enjoy the action footage!

Here is a clip from outside the cab!

And one from inside as well.. skip to 2:15 for the run to start, or watch from the beginning to see the Lamborghini that got smoked by the first gen Tacoma!! No BS there..

I have started another thread for the autocross, read up here if you want to read up on more details!

I had so much fun in the little 5 lug I decided I am going back this weekend. If anyone is in So Cal and itching to go have some fun I highly recommend you come on out and join the fun! You just need a "safe vehicle" (seat belt, wheels and battery on tight, and no major leaks) and a helmet (motorcycle helmet is ok).

You can check out the details and register here. Saturday is sold out, but I found out if you register for both days they will add you to Saturday as well if you want more wheel time. I read the rule book and believe the Tacoma goes into the STX class (still a bit confused on classes, but more in it for the fun anyhow). So sign up for novice index with the PAX of STX if you are ready. They said if 5 trucks show up we can run in a separate truck class.

It was a total blast being in the underdog Tacoma and I learned quite a bit about how to handle Trudy at speed and could tell I was a better driver by the end of the day.

Hope to catch some of you lowered guys out there!
