Dark out now. Is the rear shackle 1 piece or is there sleeves over the studs. The diameter of my 2wd rear shackle will not fit through the bushing of the 4wd spring. The 2wd spring had 2 separate rubber bushings on the rear of the spring with no steel insert inside where the shackle stud enters where as the 4wd spring has the same bushings on both ends with the steel part of the bushing itself.

Let me start from the beginning. I bought a 96 2wd Tacoma. It felt like the rear end was falling out because the u/bolts were loose for the last 100k miles. Instead of buying new bolts I decided to throw in new springs, the Dorman 929-400 for the 4wd. Then the fun started by having to cut off the old front bolts and now the rear of the spring will not fit the shackle. Lucky for me during that last 100k the hole the spring pin is supposed to fit into on the bottom of the axle is big enough for the nut holding the new spring together ti fit into. The 2wd spring ahs the pin on the top of the spring and the 4wd has it on the bottom. now the problem is the #$%$^ shackle will not fit into spring.

This is the Tundra Racing Bump Stop. I left it there for comparative purposes.

Currently, I am using the square U-bolts. I plan to swap to the 3.25" round U-bolts. Either from the XR, Calvert Racing, or the company where I purchased the square u-bolts. Then I will add a bump stop to the frame.

Kind of hard to tell the difference, but here is with the Tundra Racing rear drop.

Interestingly though, Toon's sat lower in the rear than mine did, with the same kit. Maybe because mine is an '06 4x4 and his is an '09 PreRunner?

I don't know why I didn't think of cutting the knuckles like you mentioned. Good idea though. I was already planning on getting a spare set, so that could help with the UCA angle. Just not sure if it will mess with that geometry to much or not? Not cutting springs though. That won't help with performance handling. Coilovers are the key to that.

Factory shackle is re-installed. Without a longer one, or spacer under the axle, it is as low as it can go. Plus due to the fact that I have a 4" diameter one piece drive shaft, I am about out of room for travel before it starts hitting the cables for the emegency brake lines. Where they come out of the cab. Those alread need to be moved further away from their centerline just for added clearance.

I have a strong feeling that if the level of low is right about maxed without doing custom suspension work. My whole plan though, is to do things that others can follow with the least amount of custom modification or fab work. Makes it that much easier for them. Although harder for me. ;)

that's good. i think ryry is right if you get a low pro bumpstop you can have much more up-travel. you just need to get a shorter shock like a qa1 and you could even replace the angled shim with an angled 1" or 2" block.

does the plate mounted to the frame have a hole in the center like our 5 lug trucks? prob could thread a button type bumpstop like how we do if that's the case.

you would just need to figure out clearances with your driveshaft and lines. which, I have no advice for you because i have no idea. lolololol

Agreed. Definitely need low pro bumpstops. In the rear, I will have to drill holes for them to mount to the frame. In the front, I cannot until i have the Icon UCA's. Otherwise i will over travel the factory joints.

Ready to get the QA1s for the rear, but I cannot justify that expense yet until I know how much more I owe on my engine. If any.....lol. Sandy is slowing things down with that thought.
