Lowered my 2008 4x4...

i have a custom skidplate. it's very well used. but, I'm actually low to the ground...

 

I hear you on the skid plate. However, any true offroad enthusiast would tell you that the TRD skid plate is more of an asthetic add on. It is no more durable than the stock. Actually weaker IMO... I had it LINEX'd and felt it would look better than seeing the underneath portion of truck from front.

Down the line I may go with something else..

I appreciate all the comments. I tell you that the whole 4x4 thing was a mistake from the get go. NC weather never needed a 4x4. But after all the HP add ons, I will never trade this truck for another. Rather make it look and ride the way I want. And 4x4 High on straight-a-ways has it's perks also.

i think it looks cool. if hes not planning on offroading, which most people dont do very seriously, its perfect for what he wants. it looks good, he retains his 4x4, which is good for snow, he keeps his pickup functionality, which i assume he wants and who knows it may be paid for. he can prob still hit the beaches down in NC with it like that too if he wants.

 

All I gotta say is that it looks damn good. Seriously.

No, you certainly aren't gonna be crawling over rocks, but is that the only direction to go with a 4x4? Obviously not. Props for thinking different and making it happen. It looks like it's ready for a run across the salt flats.

I wonder how it would look on my DC.

I am in the same boat, no place to off road and no time really. I daily drive the truck and like what it has to offer in terms of space and options. I added a sway bar in the rear when most take them off the front and rear. No need to flex for daily driving.

Basically largest quad cab truck that would fit in my garage. I only need 4wd for the snow. I care about handling and speed. The truck gets decent MPG for a truck so why get a AWD car with little space and marginal MPG as well.

I know this is primarily a off road oriented forum but the truck meets his needs even better after modding. No need to hate. You all mod your truck to your taste and needs same as him.

OP have you seen this kit on a DC ever. The AC look sportier overall so I think it would odd to see a lower DC.

I am sure most that see the truck will think it is a xrunner with a 6 lug adapter. Being Speedway blue is common x-runner as well.

Only thing I do not like is how the spring shackles are noticeable now.

Not saying his truck is a Trophy Truck by any means, but when is the last time that you saw one of those "lifted". They have a "lowered" stance, at rest, and perform very well off road I would say.

AWD is a form of 4x4. Just better. THat being said, I see plenty of 4x4 vehicles lowered on a regular basis. They actually look pretty damn good, and perform very well.

To enlighten those about the safety and performance difference between a "high hp" lifted vehicle vs the same hp but lowered, you gain a lot of lost ability back, as well as making the vehicle all around safer. Plus you take off wear and tear on the drive train as well. Mostly by a loss of weight.

Then again, there is the added perk of gained fuel mileage, as Roxspin mentiong.

 

Yes, actually on www.tundraracing.com the picture of the dropped truck that they have is on a DC.
