Has anyone thought of lowering a gen 3? I personally don't need the height that they have built into the new truck. The bits of off roading that I do are not challenging but loading dirt bikes etc is definitely more of a challenge for a short $=!t like me. It looks like a decent air ride system would be $3500 to $4500 but how would that ride compared to the traditional shocks? Any other alternatives out there? Thanks. Ed

Honestly the factory shocks in the non-TRD models are pretty decent, but I'd imagine an air ride would be better, especially for load leveling, as these things squat pretty handily with a moderate load (enough to aim your headlights up).

Would it be worth the cost? Honestly, that's up to you as most people on this site do vastly different things with their trucks than I do and I never consider it a waste of money, even if I personally wouldn't do it.

At least you could probably be the first to do it.

    Make a 3rd Gen X-Runner :)!

I agree. Mine is an SR 4 cylinder and I'm fine with the current suspension, how it rides and handles. My coworker had a TRD as a loaner and complained about the ride compared to his non TRD, both gen3. The height thing is a big one and yep, I don't know of a less expensive option for lowering. The air ride systems would definitely be too expensive for me.
