Lowering Spare Tire - key??

Hey Pros, I'm trying to lower my spare off to replace the sensor on my 06 Offroad. Everything I'm seeing shows that you use the hook attachment to lower it, but when I look through the slot, there's nothing for a hook to attach to to turn to lower the tire. Instead, it's this odd shape key receiver, almost like you see on other cars lug nut, as a protection against theft. We have had the truck for 4 years and thankfully have not had to change a flat on the side of the road. Anybody know what this key is or how to get the spare lowered? Photos attached. Thanks

Wait, I have to say it. You went 4 years without checking the spare?

I don't think I've gone 5+ before.

 

So are all the "keys" the same, like the same pattern? I called my Toyota dealership today and they had never heard of it before. They had to call another company who makes them, can we call the name of the company at the moment but they were closed.

Check the jack and toolkit compartment. The key is a silver cylinderical piece that's designed to clip onto the hook. If you can't find the key, look for the spare tire lock's packaging insert (with the owner's manual, in the glovebox, etc.) for the serial number, so you can order a replacement key from McGard (the company that makes locking lug nuts).
