Hey guys, I wanted to get opinions on an engine swap from the 4.0 v6 to the 6.0 lq9 in a 05 Prerunner.

First, would it fit? I haven't seen any lq9 builds yet and was wondering if its even possible?

Also how much work would it take? I can acquire a full lq9 without tranny for under 2k, but for a full build, how much more work and cash would it take?

Is the lq9 worth it? or should I go with the 5.3 Vortec or maybe even the 4.8? the LS is too much money and Vortec is just an LS that needs all the fancy stuff. I want to go v8, so no 2jz or vtec Honda haha.

    Thoughts?

No one makes a swap kit, the LS engines are small due to pushrod setup. Go with an LQ4 and build it with the money you save over the LQ9. or go with a Gen 3 or Gen 4 5.3L

FYI toyota themselves had no problem fitting the DOHC 1UZ into a tacoma engine bay, so an LQ/LS motor would be cakewalk.

Why do this? Sounds like too much trouble for what it’s worth. Just buy whatever vehicle that engine if from

You are telling me you wouldnt want a 400 HP N/A'd v8 tacoma that made easily 22+mpg? If i blew the motor in my truck, id entertain the idea of an LQ4 and 4L80 trans

But... then you'd have a Silverado... I mean, there's worse things (like a Dodge), but if you want an aluminum block, you've got a 1500 at that. Blecccccch!

Plenty of people stabbed small blocks into old <'95 pickups, so I can't imagine an LS into a much larger engine bay is terribly difficult. Especially the most common swap fodder into the most popular non-fullsize pickup...

I'd also look at the aluminum 5.3s, I don't imagine you'd really need the other 33 cubes. You can make tire-smoking power for a <5000lb truck out of a 5.3 too.
